Can you have it all?,
By
This review is from: Rock Star Mommy: My Life as a Rocker Mom (Paperback)
This book is so thoroughly enjoyable I could not put it down. It will make you laugh, it will make you think, but mostly it will make you wonder: maybe I could . . . (fill in the blank with your dream!). It's not a gritty, play by play account, but more of an overview of how a dream was reached. I love the humor of it as well as the genuineness: the author never pretends to be anything other than what she was, a bored housewife looking to make her life more exciting by doing something so unexpected and so much fun that it literally rocked her world! Ms. Davids never takes herself too seriously, constantly referring to her utter inability to play her instrument, her management inexperience (not that it stopped her!), her waffling between lack of confidence and the unerring belief that this was something she could do. The mom dictionary items that appear randomly throughout the text are hysterical, probably because they ring so true to any mom who has tried to have it all.
Okay, so maybe Judy Davids and her band never really became rock "stars" as we think of them, but they certainly are shining stars in this world where so many accept their workaday lot. I love her drive and persistence; her humor throughout her experience makes her a star in my eyes! Perhaps the most interesting part of the story though is the author's realization that, once she achieved her dream of successfully playing in a rock band, her family was more important. It really does seem that, in the end, maybe you can't have it all. But it's a great story of one woman's determined road to that realization. I loved it.

It's never too late to rock!,
By NewsGirl (Northville, MI USA) - See all my reviews

Being a musician from Detroit, it was fun to read all the local rock 'n' roll references in "Rock Star Mommy." But you don't have to be in a band or live in the Motor City - or even be a mom for that matter - to enjoy this book. Judy's fun story about forming an all-girl band at the age of 42 proves it's never too late to go after a dream.

Judy Davids Rocks and So Can You!,

Creativity doesn't end with motherhood, it just gets cooler (and if you want to survive, funnier).
Read Judy's account of forming the soccer mom-infused band the Mydols and their unlikely journey into stardom with no previous experience. This inspiring book has heart and humor. Judy artfully recounts her American tale of innovation, creativity, and smarts while trying to keep up with the laundry and juggling the countless unexpected day to day stuff of mom life. What a wonderful tale of a woman thrust into "semi" stardom.
Judy has the comedic witt the makes you want to keep on reading. I promise you will enjoy this book if you have ever worked in music, ever had kids, or ever taken a breath.

Nothing is Impossible!,

This review is from: Rock Star Mommy: My Life as a Rocker Mom (Paperback)
This delightful book is one of a kind, and absolute proof that if you have a dream and set a goal, you can accomplish anything. As Judy discovered, the road to becoming a Rock Star Mommy had many peaks, valleys, and S curves, but she persevered and exceeded everyone's expectations - even her own. For all you mothers who have a dream, this book is for you. It will provide laughter, a bit of nostalgia (if you are a 70s punk rock fan), and a whole lot of inspiration. I have had the pleasure of meeting Judy and found her to be every bit as delightful in person as she comes across in her book. I am absolutely convinced that being a member of her band would never be dull and always full of adventure. A well written, easy to read book that would be perfect for a book club of Mommys!

Reach for your dreams...Judy did and she reached them. Great inspiration!,

This book is a great example of going after your dreams and reaching them. I mean Judy had a passion for something and she did it. She rallied others around her to help her reach her goals of living her passion. And the other great thing I noticed about this book was it had sound business advice too. Great book for anyone who is on the fence about following their dream...she did it and she is living it.

I loved this book. I didn't want to put it down. Judy wants you to think she's an everymom, but she has a lot of determination and persistence to make things happen, and it's fun to go along on her ride. It reads like she's telling a girlfriend the story of her life. She's also has a sense of humor that is very self-aware so that her story is funny and charming and not the least bit egotistical.

I read Judy Davids book on vacation and it was the highlight of my summer! From her clever and well crafted writing to her infectious humor, I honestly could not put this book down. I read Judy Davids' book and loved it! It's a fun read, I read it in a day and didn't want it to end. She's speaks through her pages like you're catching up with a long lost cousin. While in conversation the other night I brought her up like she was a friend of mine, "yea, Judy Davids was talking about having a merch girl in her book." Get it and plan on passing it on to your bored friends.

A ROCK STAR IS BORN: Although she just didn't know it until after she turned 40.,
By
This review is from: Rock Star Mommy: My Life as a Rocker Mom (Paperback)
Judy Davids is a ROCK STAR true and blue. She got that way because she wanted to. Born and raised in a little town that borders 8 Mile Road, and now of Marshall Mathers fame, may have had something to do with it. Judy's book guides you though her road to success with no music skills, but a lot of heart. Read it if you dare, and you too will want to be a ROCK STAR. Can you do it? Judy did, and knowing you, I think you can also. Although, I heard Judy and her group the Mydols sing, Take Out The Trash, on CD. I suspect visually she's a cross between Madonna, in the film, Desperately Seeking Susan, who was raised just down the road from her, and they, a female version of the Blues Brothers. I plan on buying 10, no a case of these books and pass them on to rock and roll wanna be's over 40. OK, if you insist, I'll be your manager.
