I've known Dayna for some time now, and even so, I never told her the story of the night Roger Glover of Deep Purple sat with me until 3am in a hotel lobby and told me everything that Dayna is telling you in this book! I was trying to make it as a woman in music business management, rock 'n roll end, and it was tough!! Thanks to Roger's great advice, I'm still able to do some good marketing and have a lot of fun ... in an entirely different area. To be succinct, everything he told me worked .. like a charm. Dayna is telling you exactly the same thing.

So, I have recommended Dayna's book to all young musicians I know. Everything she tells you in there is true and dead on. Read it, read it again, and then read it again and take notes. Wait! She's already done the notes for you!

I'm telling you. It's all there. Get this book. It is a must-have for anyone wanting to make it in the music business (or any other business)!

Dayna Steele, Rock to the Top is an inspiring read, written with stories from her experience with some of the world's greatest rock stars. In addition to what it takes to rock to the top in whatever profession you have chosen, do it with passion, preparation and treat people with integrity. The book addresses how to be successful and draws you into a world of winners, of what to do and what not to do in your adventure to Rock to the Top. We are the Champions is a subtitle in the book where it's mentioned, passion gives you energy. She writes with simple to remember subtitles and stories that make the points poignant and unforgettable. I would not characterize this as self help but certainly motivational and if that doesn't intrigue you then the pictures of the stars in the back of the book will. I have read self help and always end up wondering what the writer was going through and how they actually got there, leaving me with no more answers than when I started reading. This book leaves nothing to the imagination of how to be your best and be successful at your chosen passion. What will you learn about success from the world's greatest rock star stories? Everything you need to know to find your passion and enjoy the read while you Rock to the Top.

The short, sweet book was right on target! It was everything I thought it would be and more. What honest, inspiring and interesting insight into the world of a super star DJ and all around saavy woman!

Dayna Steele set the world on fire in her days of Rock and Roll in a most interesting way, follow your gut and be brave...Rock On!

Best book I have read in a while!!

I bought this book because I remember Dayna Steele from her days as a DJ on KLOL.
I Recommend this book because it turns out to be a heckuva great book!
If you are looking for a book to motivate (either yourself or others), if you are looking for a how-to book about successful entrepreneurship, if you want an entertaining read, Rock to the Top is for you.

Dayna "nails it" on creating a business brand and developing business relationships. In a nutshell, Dayna and successful rock stars/business people know and live the GOLDEN RULE.

The author's extraordinary enthusiasm and energy in the book comes across really convincingly even from the first page.

Take it from the author who has milled with some of the most widely known rock stars of our generation, such as Mick Jagger and Sting, and you can see why she can advise the readers to go by gut instincts when making a success of a rock star career. Plus much more besides. Someone who wants to be successful, will get the kind of advice well known rock stars use throughout their career.

Dayna was known as the First Lady of Radio in Houston for nearly 20 years; met most of the best known rock and roll stars in the late 70s and throughout the 80s and played countless hits by such bands as ZZ Top, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin and invited to post show parties or did interviews with such Greats as Van Halen and Michael Jackson, Bowie and Peter Frampton, Rod Stewart, to name but a few.

If you want to succeed at being a rock star or have a business that goes to the top and excel, Dayna's insight into the way rock stars work and promote themselves, is through first hand experience and from that and through her on air presence on radio, you sense a feeling of `getting' a glimpse into what makes a successful person what they are.

For instance, Dayna's advice on making it a `Multi-Platinum' seller is based around `Quality', `responsibility' and teamwork (p55).

Anecdotes in the book give Dayna's advice, a voice behind the `coach' - such being that of Frank Beard's, drummer of ZZ Top, lasting influence of her family and her mother's nickname - gives a different stance to the author and adds humour to the book.

The anecdote of Sharon Osbourne firing legendary drummer, Carmine Appice and then his lodging at her place for just a few days, shows how Dayna had become a firm favourite with bands and equally, a friend.

`Conventions, luncheons, the occasional happy hour are all excellent networking opportunities.' (p86)

We get an idea of ways to promote through auctions, newsletters, blogs to give useful advice, add newsworthy posts and `soft' sell products (p88).

You'll get some healthy tips - eating well and healthily seems to be a tip which Dayna imparts to us the readers to get an idea of what a successful rock star does to keep going (p104) and that stress, drugs and alcohol can ruin a successful business or career - `The bad habits will catch up with you' (p110).

Dayna's one regret: Not visiting the Berlin Wall`when I had a chance to dance on the Berlin Wall as it came down.' (p126).

An exhilarating book.

Rock To The Top by Dayna Steele, an awared winning rock radio personality and successful entrepreneur, tells the tips for success that she has learned from working with top rock bands and rock stars through the years. The book has many of the same pointers for success that are tried and true and listed in other How To books, but this one is more fun to read and is filled with fascinating stories and quotes from bands and stars whom we have followed for decades as their success just keeps growing: Bon Jovi, Bono, Scorpions, The Kinks, U2 and many, many more. There are chapters that demonstrate the success of the succinct advice such as "Always give a quality product or service." "Set an example as a leader." "Work as part of the team." She also stresses the importance of keeping up with the latest technology and using it to enhance your efforts. Networking and believing in and helping promote yourself are vitally important. The book is an interesting and inspiring read for success in any venture and for everyone's successful living. I highly recommend it.

Great read, very fun and to the point. Dayna has some great stories that you can put to use in your own business if you are creative. Also, great pics in the back of the book. I am a rock fan and a marketing guru so this book was awesome in my opinion.

Rock to the Top is a well thought out, quick read using radio and music analogies to illustrate a broad range of areas on how to be successful in business. From quality to organization, to technology to branding and publicity, Dayna covers it all. The summaries at the end of each chapter are helpful as well.

Some of Dayna's stories are quite amusing, but she always describes her rock star interviews and friendships with honesty and objectivity. Stars are human just like everyone else, and she deftly applies what she learned from her numerous encounters for the business reader.

I walked away with new tools (and some very good reminders-like always send a thank you note to the people who help you out) to use to market my book. Overall, I'd recommend Dayna's book to any entrepreneur or person working their way up through the ranks who enjoys rock 'n' roll!

As a long time Houstonian, I grew up listening to Dana and Moby. Reading her book brought back so may memories of "back in the day" when Dana ruled 101! Back when 101 was THE station in Houston! I sure do miss those days...
Dana is a great business woman and knows what she's doing! This book was a great read!
