Where's the hooks?,
By
This review is from: Rock What You Got (Audio CD)
I'm an old guy who was introduced to Superchick by my tween daughter. (Actually, I introduced her, but she got me hooked.) I'm not much into Xian music, but these guys earned my respect because they had great songwriting as well as delivery (and they sang about stuff I value). All their stuff (i) rocked, (ii) was chock full of hooks, and (iii) was fun. We just got this album in the mail today and while it pains me to say it, I think it is a step down for Superchick. Did they hit a writer's block? All the rockers are samey anthem-type songs ("Rock what you Got, Rock what you Got, Rock what you Got" or "I'm alive, I'm alive, I'm alive" or "Hey, Hey, Hey" or "One more, One more, One more" or "And we are, And we are, And we are" or "I'm Gonna, I'm Gonna, I'm Gonna"... You get the point.) All these songs seem to be cut from the same template--melodically and rhythmically. Halfway through the album you get the sensation that you're listening to the same song over and over again. Noticeably absent are the hooks that come from good songwriting exemplified in songs like "We Live". And where's the fiesty punk grrl fun which came out in songs like "Bowling Ball"? Point blank: musically, this album is disappointing. It's totally average...something I thought Superchick was not. Nevertheless, I remain a loyal fan and look forward to Superchick's next effort as I believe they are capable of so much more.

Rocking chick tunes,
By
This review is from: Rock What You Got [+digital booklet] (MP3 Download)
Found Superchick on Slacker radio a month ago with my 10yr old daughter. I really enjoy her digging a rocking band with Christian lyrics as opposed to secular pop "go out and have sex" lyrics. And like the album title, this collection rocks. Don't want to listen to it all day long, but a very good album.

Girl Power! :D,
By
This review is from: Rock What You Got (Audio CD)
Their music is awesome for getting you off your butt, & living life. The reason why I say girl power is because, "Alive" & "So Beautiful". HOWEVER, there are quite a few other awesome songs that are more diverse such as "Rock What You Got", "Hey Hey", "Cross The One" & "Stand In The Rain". I TRULY recommend this cd, as I completely loved it!

Great positive upbeat cd,

I bought this cd for one song I heard on the radio. While I was hesitant for just one song...I have not listened to anything else but this cd sine I got it. It is amazingly upbeat, extremely positive music. While they are listed un Christian artists their songs are not fire and brimstone and rarely mention God or Jesus (haven't quite figured out how I feel on that). But great music to car dance to...lol.
So.....rock what ya got!!!!

Superchick Unleashed,

I can say Superchick is stepping their game way up. You can see their growth in God in the last 2 albums. They got away from the pop high school cds and to more serious music. This CD is a must buy and so is seeing them live in concert. I recommend this CD.

Superchic[k] rocked what they had!,

This is a great opening and the title track "Rock What You Got" is a very catchy and uplifting song. The style on this album is little different from other ones, but not too drastic.
This is a wonderful, rock and fun filled album, perfect for any Superchic[k] fan!

Our family went to see Superchick in Salt Lake City, Utah in May and were anxiously awaiting the new album. We were not disappointed. This album (no pun intended) ROCKS!!! The guitar, bass and drum work is absoulutely mind-blowing. The vocals are outstanding. We hope to see Superchick back in SLC soon!

the soundtrack for my summer, maybe my year!,
This review is from: Rock What You Got (Audio CD)
i honestly cannot believe how amazing this album is. It's a little bit rock, a little bit pop, a little bit metal (listen to "Hey Hey" and try to tell me that you don't hear some heavy metal in there?!) and a little bit punk. Something for everyone!
i LOVE the vocal work on "Breathe" - I heard on a radio interview that there are something like SIXTEEN harmonies layered in that song alone! I'm sure we'll be hearing this tune on a show like Grey's Anatomy next season... I've never heard frontwoman Tricia Brock sound as rock and roll as she does in songs like "Cross The Line," "Alive" and "One More," and the band's musicianship shines all over this album. The electronic production and synth work kicks all the tracks up a notch into pure fun with a nod to the '80s, making this album really unique for this genre. Even Dave Ghazarian's guitar solo (which I admit I didn't think I'd like) turns out to be a stellar track that totally brings this album full circle as the guys in the band get a chance to rock what THEY got! This is definitely going to the be the soundtrack for my summer (or maybe even my year?!), I can already tell. HIGHLY recommended.

I'm a fan of SuperChic[k]. They've gotten me through some hard times. I appreciate their upbeat lyrics and can relate with some of the sadder ones. This CD, however, is pretty generic. It doesn't sound like anything new. It's not bad though. I wouldn't dissuade someone from buying it, but I wouldn't persuade them either.
