5.0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking new sound, March 7, 2009
By
Andy (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rock N Rave (Audio CD)
The thing that stands out about this album is just the amount of energy every track has. Every track has its own individual character and sound, yet still has the Benny Benassi flavor.

The music on this album is, for the most part, quite uplifting and makes you want to get up. If you are a fan of electronic dance music, you'll find a lot on here to appreciate. This is electro house at its best, and Benny Benassi is doing a great job of defining the emerging electro genre.

Many tracks on here have vocals, and they do not disappoint. On 'My Body', although Mia J's vocals may come off as juvenile, add to the overall attitude of the song and match perfectly with the infectious hook.
On 'Shocking Silence', Dino's vocals add quite a bit of emotion to the track and shape the song's atmosphere. Again, here they do not disappoint. This track along with 'Love and Motion' with Christian Burns sound surprisingly emotional for a house track, and both are brimming with energy.

The sound is a bit more evolved from the one on Hypnotica, but those who enjoyed it will enjoy this one for sure. There is a lot for everybody here, and for those who like electro house, this album is absolutely flawless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Its on my Totally Awesome List, July 30, 2008
This review is from: Rock N Rave (Audio CD)
The only reason why I don't give this 5 stars is becuz how could anything ever compare to BennyB's studio album. He is rated at 13th greates in the world, but I give him a big #1 and shout out that his music is so awesome it should be its own style, cuz it is THE BENNY BENASSI STYLE!

A more subdued way to describe this bangin' album might be to describe it as a mix of other artists with or instead of Benny in the format of vs. style and feat. (others) styles. I am not a huge knowledge base of the entire type of music but I didnt recognize many of the songs. There are a few of Benny's best on here as well, and they are all done excellently. The entire 2 cds are very melodic, I would say the emphasis is more melodic not to say less thumpin. I mean at one point I was like "was that just a guitar solo?" but it all works, and works well. All Benny all the time.

My subcompact car bounces to Benny 24-7, so I have not yet finished the second disc, but I just felt I really needed to gety a positive review out there as there were none yet.

Benny Benassi is totally awesome!

Come back to US this year Benny!

Do a mix of 'Dance With My Pants' Benny!

3.0 out of 5 stars Blah..., June 9, 2008
This review is from: Rock N Rave (Audio CD)
After hearing Benny's 1st album right away I'd labeled him a sell-out cheezeball & so as you can probably tell I'm not a huge Benassi fan. I thought I'd give this one a shot though, as so far the summer's been a bit dry as far as EDM releases. After listening to "R'n'R", I don't totally hate myself for buying it, but it's nothing I'd brag about or recommend to others check out either. Though it may be a HUGE improvement over the soul-less "Hypnotica" album it's still just your average generic run of the mill electro album, nothing special. The only couple tracks that'll stick out are maybe "Who's Your Daddy", or "Bring The Noise" on disc 2, but only then you'll only recognise those because they were already released last year. One thing to look forward to is track 2 on disc 1 "My Body" being a possible contender as one of the stupidest songs ever recorded. The vocals by "Mia J" on this track make you really wanna go break something or hurt someone, it's just mind gratingly stupid, kinda up there with "Barbie Girl". I'd actually almost written off the whole album because of this one track, but thankfully it does get a little better after that track. All in all the album isn't horrible, it's just not something you'll go out of your way to listen to (and if it is let me be the first to tell you you're realy missing out), it's pretty much just a by the numbers, forgetably average, electro house album. It is Benassi though, so I don't know what I was really expecting in the 1st place. Listener discretion advised, SERIOUSLY!
