1.0 out of 5 stars Actually, NO stars for this CD June 17, 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I guess one star is the worst rating I'm allowed to give it. But it deserves NO stars, and here's why: Anyone who fondly remembers Matchbox's high-powered "Rockabilly Rebel" album on vinyl from 20 years ago will be disappointed to learn this CD is not the same item. I sent it back with the shrink-wrap still on it when I saw the songs listed on the back. Only the title track remains from the original release. Maybe it's the version I know, maybe it's a rerecorded version -- it doesn't matter. The original record had 12 tracks; this CD has seven, including "Radar Love" (which I assume is the Golden Earring classic). I don't care how good this CD may be, I don't understand why it's called "Rockabilly Rebel" by a band called Matchbox when it clearly isn't the same collection of songs released under that title 20 years ago. Besides, who wants to pay import prices for seven songs? I suggest you pass on this one and hope, as I do, that some company will gain the rights to issue the real deal before we're too old to rock. (By the way, the good folks at Amazon are blameless for this situation. My ire is directed at the record company that put this thing out in the first place.)

1.0 out of 5 stars What a ...!! September 9, 2001
Format:Audio CD
I bought this cd hoping to listen again the fabulous album issued by Magnet Records many years ago. But I only found seven songs and only the title track is the only link to that old long play. Maybe one day I will find the original cd...maybe!

Then forget this.I too LONG for the Matchbox "Rockabilly Rebel" days of 20 sum years ago.(I remember seeing them for the first time in this era) after a all night after party at my house at about 5:00a.m. Sun morning on a show called Lets Rock (I think) Kinda a U.K. version of a Sha Na Na show. And went out and found the record at Tower the next day.(have gottin a few more over the years)But in the last couple months I started listening to a podcast from the U.K. called The Western Star Rockabilly Podcast and I heard a song with that stand out hic-cup vocals they had singing a new song I had never heard."Roly Poly" when the Dj backanounced he said "That was the new one by Graham Fenton" (ex singer of Matchbox)he has gone solo, records for Western Star (the people who do the podcast)is on a couple of thier comp albums but now has finished a full album Graham Fenton & The Western Allstars.(and the other tunes I've heard off it have that same old Matchbox sound)You can buy it here @ Amazon (it just came out & only Import now) so cost $20 (I'm just gonna wait a month or two to see if a used one pops up,if not I'll buy a new one.)But used or new it's WELL worth it.LOTS of songs (unlike this F'n one)So now I guess I have to give a "SHOUT OUT THANK YOU!" to the people at Western Star for keeping GOOD 70's U.K. Rockabilly alive.(and also) Check out thier podcast theres 5 of um so far.(They are on quarterly and great)Let me know what you think.ENJOY & ROCK OUT CATS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rockabilly Rebels still rockin' July 11, 2005
Format:Audio CD
The original Matchbox album on Magnet Records with songs like 'Rockabilly Rebel' and 'Buzz Buzz A Diddle It' was just called 'Matchbox'. It wasn't called 'Rockabilly Rebel' as many people seem to think.

This is recorded sometime later. 'Rockabilly Rebel' is a different recording of their best-known hit, and it's excellent. The rest of the tracks are great too - especially the cover of 'Drivin' Wheel'.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy the the Original November 3, 2001
Format:Audio CD
You can now buy the original on CD reference Raucous Records
Ref RAUCD 081. Happy listening. I was an original groupie of Matchbox in the late seventies, Graham Fenton attended my wedding and was nearly my brother in law. Buy it, I might as I no longer have the vinyl.
