Slim Jim Phantom is a drumming original who came to prominence with the band, The Stray Cats. Jim started the trend of the stand-up drummer as he played swing and rock combinations that helped to define his style.

While Mr. Phantom puts on an entertaining video, he lacks in instructional substance. I have been a traditional rockabilly drummer for the last three years, and was looking forward to some new insight, or methods. What I found was mostly demonstrative. Jim's style is more "watch how I do this" versus the more needed "this is HOW I do this". Rockabilly is very unique, musically- especially when playing live. The dynamic between bass(particularly stand-up bass)and drums was not approached. The rockabilly drummer has a much different role in the rockabilly band versus a drummer's role in a rock band. As a perceived "leader" in this style drumming, Mr. Phantom should have addressed these key issues. It also should have been noted that rockabilly drummers should NOT wear drum gloves, unless they enjoy ridicule ... by [others] at shows.
The video remains worth the purchase however, and is very entertaining. Fortunatley for Mr. Phantom, there's not a lot of competition in this niche instructional market.
