This tune is more than just a song and has evolved into a musical icon of the era. So it is a little hard to hear this with a fresh ear. But it is very lyrical with great vocals and devoid of the triteness that plagues some of Elton John's work. It has nice pacing with slower piano interludes, sans drumming, which reverts to the more classical rock conventions during the chorus. There are some subdued guitar and synthesizer parts and background vocals. Overall a very nicely composed and performed work and will bring back a lot of memories for those of us who grew up hearing this tune. It is 4:42 minutes long.
