I have a DSLR camera, and use a high speed 4GB CF card in it. I popped that in and it read and wrote perfectly onto the card and very good speeds. I love the fact that this thing has the USB connection built into the body. I was mainly looking for something wire free and compact. This fits the bill and I am very happy with it.
My only gripe with this product was that the USB connector does not have a "click" feel when you open it. It opens out almost all the way but does not lock. It sits around being all wishy washy about which direction it wants to bend in. Apart from that, its great! If not for this issue, I would give it 5 stars.
Use caution inserting the CF card so that it enters the pins straight. All portable readers have short entry ramps to save size so just use caution.
Manufacturers of these devices need to put real thought into how to make these products less disposable. There's no reason why a card reader like this should fail after a couple of months of use. Having it do so does not create repeat customers as I doubt any of those who gave this a negative review because of failure will buy this again and they'll be unlikely to buy other products with this brand. It would not cost Rocketfish more than a couple of cents more per unit to protect the wires at the point of entry, thus making this device much more reliable.
I've read through the other reviews and haven't experiences any of the problems they've mentioned -- other than the "It doesn't click" issue. But I don't recongnize that as an issue at all. I plug it into a USB socket, pop my CF card into it, and start downloading - not sure why having it "click" into place is important. It's plug N play.
The built in USB connector tucks away nicely when not in use, and you never have to worry about losing or breaking a cable.
I don't own any other RocketFish products, so I can't speak to the company as a whole, but this gadget does exactly what says it'll do. I couldn't be happier with it. - 5 stars
Let me tell you, it makes your life easier... after you return it for not working. I tried to load it into 3 machines. An XP and two Win7 machines. None of them worked, and even under the conditions of letting the machines choose the driver, as well as loading the rocketfish DVD driver in each instance. Be careful and do the smart thing, avoid rocketfish at all costs. Just the name should tell you, who would put a rocket on a fish and expect anything productive to turn out? A moron, thats who. Well, I am that much less a moron now. I sure hope you don't make this mistake too.
