5.0 out of 5 stars Sure it's dumb, but GREAT!
Purhaps my love for this movie is because the first time I watched it, I was with a bunch of slap-happy children. We laughed and laughed and it instantly won a place in my heart. 3.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly underrated movie
I was astonished when I read Leonard Maltin gave this a BOMB. RocketMan is nowhere as bad as all those critics said it was. In fact, it is quite humorous. Good family entertainment. Also, since I'm involved in an independent study about Mars, I found the movie quite amusing! Pee-wee Hermanesque too!

It's now one of my family's comedy classics. We return to it whenever we just need to laugh and slapstick silliness and lighten our mood. It's too bad it seemed to commercially flop and has become a somewhat difficult-to-find cult film. I always recommend it to friends who enjoy watching movies with their kids, and nobody has been disappointed. They know they're getting into a "stupid" movie, and they love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A rare comedic surprise..Adults give it a chance!!, October 30, 2002

This review is from: Rocketman [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Tuesday evening, eightish. My girlfriend and I sitting around, bored, trying to think of something to do. 2 weeks prior we watched The Whole Nine Yards when, much to my surprise and delight, Harland Williams made a cameo. I commented that this guy was hilarious and my girlfriend asked if I had ever seen Rocketman. I said no and she said we will watch it some day because it was so funny. I agreed and continued watching the movie. Back to Tuesday evening. My girlfriend suggests we go rent Rocketman. Off to Block.... uh, a video store we go, and I read the box for Rocketman. Red lights go off in my mind. "A Disney movie?" "Spaceship?" "Monkey?". All these things added up in my head and suddenly my enthusiasm for seeing this movie died. I pictured myself sitting through an incredibly sophomoric kids movie for 90 minutes. As it turns out, that's kind of what happened, but this one was VERY different. My sides still hurt from laughing so hard. Harland Williams is a riot in this movie. Picture Jim Carrey if he were not so annoying. Sure, there are the body noise jokes, but outside of that there is some really funny stuff here. Kids will like it for the things you expect from a Disney movie, but adults will find this one funny as well. Lots of classic lines including but not limited to: "Fun is my Chinese neighbor's middle name" and "I'm 30 years old Mom! I'm practically a grown man!" You have to rent this just to see his anti theft system for his car! My advice here is rent or buy this movie if you have had a long, stressful week and you just need to laugh for 90 minutes. You will feel a lot better afterwards....for all my movie reviews check out my website at fromtheblackchair.blogspot

First I agree, this is a very funny! However, you must be warned, watching this movie is dangerous! I was laughing so hard I could not breath!!! I'm serious! I thought I was going to die! I had to turn away from the screen and totally get my mind off the film before I could stop laughing long enough to get a breath of air. Absolutely do not eat popcorn while watching this film. I promise you, you will choke! This incredulous movie is so funny that you have not time to recover from one funny incident to the next! This movie needs a warning label on it: WARNING! This movie could cause you to die laughing! REALLY! You must take this warning seriously!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie, BUT why pay those outlandish prices, January 24, 2006
This review is from: Rocketman (DVD)
It's a great movie and we've waited quite a few years to get it on DVD. But, your prices are ridiculous -- It's cheaper to join the Disney Movie Club and by it from them (plus get more movies for your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars GIVE US EXTRAS WITH THIS RELEASE !!!!, July 24, 2004
This review is from: RocketMan (DVD)
I'm stoked they are finally thinking of putting this out on DVD. What they need to do is throw some $$$ at Harland Williams and put him in a sound booth for a commentary. How about some behind the scenes / making of features, and for good measure throw in a Director's commentary track. I've been a fan of this film since I saw it in the theater during it's orginal release and it is still one of the funniest movies I've seen. Disney should do justice to the DVD release of one of their most underrated classics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harland Williams...one talented physical comic, January 3, 1999
This review is from: Rocketman [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Most recently famed as the "freaky" hitchhiker picked up by Ben Stiller in "There's Something About Mary", Harland Williams made his staring debut a year or two earlier as Fred Z. Randall in this hirarious childish flick. A cross between Paul Reubens, Jim Carrey, with a bit of Adam Sandler looks thrown in, Harland Williams will make you laugh every time you watch this and quote its lines. Not for the overly serious film types. This is a great movie, subtle stupid lines and fantastic facial expressions make this Disney flick fun for everbody...I mean come on, who isn't a sucker for a monkey kissing a drunken astronaut?

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet Another Underrated Disney Live Action Comedy, January 26, 2002
By
This review is from: Rocketman [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Initially when I saw this film in the theatre I thought it was rather nauseating. However after viewing this on video at home I came to like it. In fact, I thought this was a very funny as well as an extremely amusing film. As an aside, after viewing some recent films such as MISSION TO MARS and RED PLANET I have come to the conclusion that ROCKETMAN did a much better job of depicting the surface of Mars. ROCKETMAN has sort of a retro look and feel about it. Yet when compared to what Disney was producing in the 70s this is a far better film than many of those light comedies. Some of the scenes were dumb, I mean really dumb, but that's what makes it so amusing and funny. I liked it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Natured Funny, March 22, 2007
This review is from: Rocketman (DVD)
I didn't think I was going to like this movie after watching the first few minutes. It seemed to get dumber and dumber...and then the dumber it got, the funnier it became. "Funny" is an understatement: it's hilarious.

If ever there was a cult classic comedy, this is it. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard as I did during the "gas" scene...some fart jokes are funny, but to include the sight gag with it is side-splitting laugh-out-loud.

You walk away from this movie smiling. As far as I'm concerned, that spells "winner" in my book.
