This review is from: Rockets' Red Glare: Missile Defenses and the Future of World Politics (Hardcover)
This book examines the American deployment of missile defense, and consists of several chapters, each of whom is written by a separate author who examines a different aspect of this issue. There are chapters on how missile defense would impact international relations, not just between the US and other countries, but between other countries such as India vs Pakistan, and China vs Taiwan. Other chapters examine the ABM treaty, and how different versions of missile defense would affect the treaty. All the chapters delve into the technical aspects of missile defense, such as missile range, required bases, inspection regimes, etc, etc... and how these technical aspects tie directly into politics and diplomacy. However, the book misses out on the economics, specifically how much money would need to be spent to achieve different levels of missile defense, what corporations would get the contracts, and how this ties into Congressional races and other political campaigns. So in all, this book gives only a partial picture of the missile defense issue.
