Rockhounding Arizona, 2nd: A Guide to 75 of the State's Best Rockhounding Sites (Rockhounding Series)

As a first time rockhound in Arizona, I excitedly purchased this book all ready to get out there and find my own treasures. I tried to find seven of the sites listed in the book by using the directions the author provided. His mileage distances are way off base, and he certainly doesn't provide any type of details other than his handwritten maps. I finally ended up throwing this book away. Don't purchase this book; it's not worth your time or trouble.

Unlike the previous reviewer, I was able to locate most of the sites I attempted to visit. Combining the rough descriptions in this book with a good topographic map is essential. However, the author does list quite a few sites where no collecting is allowed and he states this in the description, making you wonder why the site is listed in the book at all. Overall, Gem Trails of Arizona by Mitchell is a better guide.

This is a good book for rockhounding. I have gone to 5 sites and all has been great!
