Straight up rock and roll,
By Kid A (Boulder, CO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rockihnroll (Audio CD)
Greg Kihn never really hit the big time. I mean sure, he had a couple of hits with The Breakup Song and Jeopardy. It was enough to at least get his name out there, but it never went beyond that. A two-hit wonder I suppose. The fact is, though, that Greg Kihn put out a lot of material over many years and it's a shame he hasn't been recognized for his ability to whip out great hooks.I'm not sure who would be insane enough to spend $90 on an out of print Greg Kihn CD. I bought this on vinyl a couple weeks ago for $3, and it sounds great. There are no bad tracks on this album. Everybody knows The Breakup Song, of course. Do yourself a favor and check out Valerie, Trouble in Paradise, and Sheila. When you look back and compare, there are a lot of similarities between Kihn's sound and that of Tom Petty. It hardly seems fair that Petty shot to super-startdom while Greg Kihn faded away into obscurity. Petty had a much more refined, slick sound, so I suppose that's what appealed to the masses. Personally, I'll take the raw, garage-band sound of Greg Kihn any day.

RocKihnRoll rocks!,

One of my favorite albums of all time. Every song on this album is great. Nothing to skip over. I saw Greg Kihn in concert 7 times (one time when he was the opening act for the Tattoo You Rolling Stones tour.) This is the album before the release of Jeopardy and I still like this one better.

Rockihnroll Is Greg Kihns Best Album,
By
This review is from: Rockihnroll (Audio CD)
This is Greg Kihns best, and most cohesive album. It's an album that is plainly, simple rock and roll. It came out during the new wave craze. And people were itching for some simple rock and roll pop melodies again. Greg Kihn is best when he write love songs. When he tries to take on political, or deep subjects, it doesn't work. His voice has a folky sound to it with a unique husky whisper. Every song on this album from Sheila to the Breakup Song, Have catchy hooks, and yet a feel of familarity. It is like you are hearing music from earlier era but with new energy. My only complaint is that no record company has reissued this classic album since 1994. Rumor has it that some of his most popular albums will be reissued soon. Then we can get rid of the scalper's that want outrageus prices for his CD's. I'll wait patiently!

LOVED the cassette,

This review is from: Rockihnroll (Vinyl)
I think when this first came out I bought the album then had to have the cassette to play in my car. Most of my friends fell in love with this music too.We cruised around that summer playing this all the time in the car. Females and males both loved this music. I own all the Greg Kihn albums I could find. This is still my favorite. It is a crime that the whole batch of their albums is not available on CD or for download. You might not like a lot of their music but there are some real gems that never got airplay.

rockihn roll is knackish,
By
This review is from: Rockihnroll (Audio CD)
I remember the summer of 81 and the radio played smmoth songs to get you through those dog days.A man who has been around since the seventies made a rocking album.Every song is good from Valerie straight down to When the music starts.Although he sounded a little rough around the UH'S during the Breakup Song this is still nice to play as a remember when time.Although very commercial its great to play at parties or if you want to recapture those feelings of yesterday when you got the most out of your money buying CD'S.When an album has hits all the way through you don't feel like you were being ripped off.Now I know why people download songs, make a good album so we won't have to do it.
