Why The Fuss?,

This review is from: Rockin in the Free World (Audio CD)
I'm a long-time Neil Young fan, and I respect Michael Moore and his opinion of Bush (whom I respect not at all). Even so, I probably would not have done a review of this disc under normal circumstances. It's just a 3-song EP, after all, and contains three different versions of the same song, at that. But after reading some of the scathing reviews below, I just had to put in my two cents worth.
First of all, it's a great song. And even if most of what's here is available elsewhere, so what? It's still a great song-- all three versions. This disc represents a little slice of American history, will probably only be available for a limited time, and is destined to become a collector's item. And hey, it's only four bucks. Why complain? If you want to complain about something, consider the fact that that idiot in the white house still has another 3 1/2 years in which to do even more damage than he already has.

Cudos go to Neil Young for standing up to his principles. Truthful and unbiased news are so hard to come by now in the U.S. that you have to go on the internet to find anything critical or discerning that is not controlled by the mainstream media who now answer only to the administation and no longer to their own conscience. Thank God for documentary filmmakers like Michael Moore for sticking their necks out to speak up against the status quo that TOO MANY Americans are willing to accept without question...
I highly recommend this CD. Support your beliefs !!! Keep on "ROCKIN' IN THE FREE WORLD" Neil Young & Michael Moore :)

Well, I try not to be negative about things (and usually I succeed), but it's truly a travesty that Neil Young let this song be released as a single for the movie. It's disgraceful enough that Neil let the song be used in the movie, but that usage has merits. This single has no point or advantage at all. If you want Rockin' In The Free World, buy Freedom. You'll get RITFW's raunchy electric radio-hit, plus a strong unplugged live version, and a whole host of other good songs, including classics such as Crime In The City and Too Far Gone. Or even better, if you watch Farenheit 9/11 and walk out of the theatre thinking "hey, that song was awesome," then go pick up the Neil Young's Greatest Hits collection that's about to be released. (FYI, the current tracklist on Amazon is kind of messed up, it includes "Hey Hey" and "My My" when really the song is "Hey Hey My My" and Rockin' In The Free World IS included).
Maybe if they gave this single out free as a promotional tool for the movie, it would have some kind of an worthy applicable use, although it would be a horrible sell-out usage that I'd think Neil Young would be above ("won't sing for politicians... makes me look like a joke"). But as it is, there's no reason to buy this single. Go buy a better album/CD, go listen to the radio (you're bound to hear RITFW often enough), or use one of those nifty downloading services to get your own little Rockin' In The Free World for like $0.35 or however much those services cost for one song. Keep on rolling, people. :)

BOO!!!! STAY AWAY!,

This review is from: Rockin in the Free World (Audio CD)
Ya know... I love Neil Young and I am an avid supporter of the free expressions Michael Moore always presents a rather "dumbed down" america even when I don't agree with his beliefs. BUT...DON'T BUY THIS SINGLE! STAY AWAY! It is the classic Neil Young song, which works well for the movie but this single is an exact copy of what we were given in the movie. I was expecting maybe some periodic jibes from Moore during the remix or some classic Bush-isms but all we are given is the final minute of dialogue from the movie ("fool me once..") and then directly into the song. EXACTLY WHAT THE MOVIE DOES! Talk about trying to make a buck on a movie. like this movie needs it anyway! i support the movie, i support moore, i support young...I DO NOT support this single!!!!
