Why the low ratings???,
By Martin Lemos (Millbrae) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rockin' My Life Away (Audio CD)
I find it hard to imagine that some reviewers would give ROCKIN' MY LIFE AWAY only 1 star. This album rocks. George and the band show off their top notch musicianship and this is an album for music fans that want great music with no frills. George and the Destroyers dont need any gimmicks, the music speaks for itself. The songs that I think the listener will enjoy are GET BACK INTO ROCKIN', TROUBLE EVERYDAY, NIGHT RIDER, THE USUAL, ROCKIN' MY LIFE AWAY, JAIL BAIT and LIVING WITH THE SHADES PULLED DOWN. I think that SHADES is a true gem off this album. It is a classic country song that the band pulls off well. MANHATTAN SLIDE is a classic instrumental that the shows off with great musical interaction on the song. This is a great album for music fans, and I think those reviewers that gave it low ratings should give it a listen once again.

A TRULY UNDERRATED ALBUM!,

This review is from: Rockin' My Life Away (Audio CD)
The fact that Thorogood is still tryin' new things and not doing a zillionth variation of "Bad To The Bone" is great. This album smokes! It's got George doin' a Frank Zappa track for cryin' out loud! How cool is that! The best track is the amazing cover of "The Usual". If George's audience wants to smack his wrist everytime the man tries to expand, then to hell with 'em! I've been a true-blue Thorogood maniac since I was 15 years old, and "Rockin' My Life Away" shows my man in fine form. Rock on amigo!

George & the boys keep rockin',
By Michael O'Brien (Essexville, MI) - See all my reviews

This recording features many sides of George, including the classic sound of his guitar on "Rockin' my life away," and "Get back into rockin'." He mixes in some blues with "The Usual" which happens to be my favorite track. His trademark simple lyrics are caught on "Rock and Roll Man," but you can't stop tapping your feet or pounding on the steering wheel. This album was not well received, but is a must for all Thorogood fans - new and old. The sax and keyboard work by Hank Carter is phenominal. A must buy.

Not George's Best Work,
By MRod "Hoosier Music Man" (Indiana via Virginia) - See all my reviews

Not the best work by George and the Destroyers. Probably would have been better served to release as an EP. Last half dozen tracks wouldn't even have been suitable B-Sides. First half is decent Thorogood material.

George Stretches Out,

If your a fan of George's basic blues based boogie, this may not be an album for you. I like pretty much everything he's done, but this one is special to me.
Not a great departure, but songs like The Usual, Living With The Shades Pulled Down, Dog Can't Bark, and Stoop Down put George's signature sound on unusual material (for him). You'll get a chuckle as George hams it up on "Jail Bait". As much as I enjoy his usual fare, I wish he'd do albums like this more often.

George gets mellow,

One of my favorite Thorogood albums to listen to. No, there are not a lot of rockers or bluesy numbers here. For the most part it is honky tonk with a nice mellow buzz. It's just a nice relaxed album that lends itself towards a little whiskey sipping.

George's sound takes a dive,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rockin' My Life Away (Audio CD)
First let me say that I am and always have been a huge Thorogood fan. However, even though I love Thorogood music with all my heart this is simply a bad bad album. The production is lifeless and empty and most of the songs are just plain boring. The highlight is his cover of Livin with the shades pulled Down which is very good. "Get Back into Rockin" is great live, but the version on this album falls flat. I know George hasn't lost it because he still cooks live, but this album really made me wonder until I saw him in concert again. Buy this album *only* if you absolutely have to have everything he has ever released.
