Anything With Hank Jones and Ray Brown Deserves a Listen!, July 11, 2011
This review is from: Rockin in Rhythm (Audio CD)
Hank Jones is another underrated pianist! His playing, always holding the listener's interest, is smooth showing the influence of Art Tatum and Teddy Wilson. His accessible playing was adaptable to many genres including bop, some good examples being a couple of albums turned out honoring his brother Thad's music.
I found the beautiful way he played ballads very appealing which is why I picked this album. With the exception of the first cut, "Your Feet's Too Big", the remainder are all familiar standards. Everytime I play this disk I'm struck by the cohesiveness of this trio undoubtedly enhanced by the experience of these veteran musicians. Another plus, at least for me, is that Hank is featured on four of the eight tunes on Fender Rhodes which became quite popular with key boardists in the late '70s and early '80s. "Bags Groove" and the title tune make a nice contrast to the ballads.....the whole set being good background or late night music. Apparently, it hasn't been re-released judging by the prices being offered.
If you find a copy at a reasonable price, it will be a good addition to your collection if you like any or all of the musicians or are partial to easy jazz trio or late night music.

I chanced upon Hank Jones on youtube, the only track/video I heard was "The Ship", and oh my! I couldn't help but sort, found and bought this CD and I was not disappointed at all. I believe Mr Hank Jones is truely a gifted pianist.
