5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE IT WHEN THEY DO THIS!
All or almost all of Rick's rockers on one CD! If you are an old rockabilly cat like me or a new rockabilly cat for that matter your collection isn't complete without this one. There is a weak cut or two here . For instance he should have left "Whole Lotta Shakin" alone or tried another arrangement. But overall it's great fun. Rick could rock for sure and...

3.0 out of 5 stars five stars for the music; one star for the sound
I was very excited to receive this CD, and very disappointed when I heard it. The sound is thin, and I quickly experienced ear fatigue. I have some of these songs on other Rick Nelson collections, so I know how well recorded they were, and how good they could sound. What a disappointment!

There is a weak cut or two here . For instance he should have left "Whole Lotta Shakin" alone or tried another arrangement. But overall it's great fun. Rick could rock for sure and was always backed up by a very tight band no matter who was in it! If you are a guitar player both Burton and Maphis are in top form here. This CD fits right in with Carl, Gene, Eddy, Elvis and all the other great Rockabilly artists. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ricky Rocks! Ricky Rules!, October 5, 2000

This is EXACTLY the Rick collection I was looking for. Straight-ahead Rickabilly with nary a ballad in the bunch. Rick was truly bad to the bone, as important as Elvis or Carl Perkins (who were big Rick fans themselves). This would make a great companion piece to any Sun Records collection you might have a mind to pick up (Elvis, Carl, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Charlie Rich, Jerry Lee Lewis). Make Rick an important part of your daily Rock-n-Roll diet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Hard To Find Gems, June 1, 2000

Some of the tracks on this CD are from Ricky Nelson's first stereo LP "Songs By Ricky" (1959). Several of these songs aren't available on any other CD. I don't agree the sound quality is that bad. The mono tracks sound typical for what I've heard on other Ricky Nelson reissues. The stereo tracks sound really good. The following tracks are true stereo - - 17, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, and 32. The back of the CD states "transferred from original analogue master tapes". The back of this CD also labels which tracks are stereo or mono, which is how it should be done on all oldies CD's.

This CD is produced by ACE. The CD insert (pamphlet) is several pages long and includes several black & white/color photos of Ricky.

For those who like their rock & roll FAST & FUN, this CD collects 32 (count 'em, 32!) Rick Nelson recordings made between 1957-61. And MOST of them were never available on CD before! A worthwhile package. (This may change-- 3 of Rick's early albums have recently been put on CD at last: RICKY and RICKY NELSON as a "twofer", and possibly his best, RICK IS 21, as an expensive import with bonus tracks!)

Rick Nelson was a true rockabilly. If you don't believe me, Carl Perkins said so. This CD is a good collection of his early stuff, heavily influenced by his young fascination with rockabilly and rock'n'roll. Some of the tracks may be a little too pop, but for those who have written off Nelson as a lightweight, you should give it a spin. You know, he did sell over 200 million records...

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Freakin' Heaven!, September 21, 2007
This review is from: Rockin' With Ricky (Audio CD)
Absolutely flawless collection of Rick's early, rockin' tracks. A Pure Rockabilly experience, with James Burton's searing Telecaster lines bursting out of Ricks' deadpan vocal at frequent blissful intervals.
This is pretty much the only Rick Nelson CD you need if you're a Rockabilly fan. Genius!

Having been a Ricky Nelson fan since I was a kid (I'm an early baby boomer)this is a must collection for any true fan. This CD shows the vast good material that Ricky had to work with during his Imperial recording years. My only question is why "A Long Vacation" wasn't included? This CD is a bargain, enjoy!
