Format: Audio CD
Bobby Day, born Robert Byrd in Fort Worth, Texas on July 1, 1930, started recording in 1950 with a group he formed called The Hollywood Flames and, over the years, essentially the same cast would record as The Flames, The Hollywood Four Flames, The Jets, The Tangiers and The Satellites. Then, in 1957, with the group consisting of Byrd, leead singer Earl Nelson, Curtis Williams, formerly with The Penguins, Clyde Tillis, and David Ford, they scored for the small Ebb label as The Hollywood Flames once again with Buzz-Buzz-Buzz, which made it to # 5 R&B/# 11 Billboard Pop Top 100 in December. The B-side, Crazy, is regarded as a Top 100 "follow-along" hit.

At almost the same time as Buzz-Buzz-Buzz was climbing the charts, Byrd had a record released on the Class label as by Bobby Day and The Satellites, a cover if the Thurston Harris smash hit Little Bitty Pretty One, which in Day's case came a distant second at # 57 Top 100 in December b/w When The Swallows Come Back To Capistrano (not included here). ZIt would then be eight long months before he returned to the charts, but what a return! In late summer 1958 Rock-in Robin rocketed to # 1 R&B and # 2 Billboard Pop Hot 100 b/w Over And Over, and this time he beat out the Thurston Harris version by reaching # 41 Hot 100 and regarded as a # 1 R&B "follow-along."

At the end of the year, however, the follow-up The Bluebird, The Buzzard And The Oriole was too similar to the big hit, and in early 1959 it only managed to get to # 54 Hot 100 b/w Alone Too Long (omitted here). The next two fared much worse, as That's All I Want just squeezed into the Hot 100 at # 98 in April b/w Say Yes, and in June Gotta New Girl stalled at # 82 b/w Mr. And Mrs. Rock-'N-Roll.
