4.0 out of 5 stars Mix love and lust with revenge. Bake at 450
I liked it, an enjoyable read, moving fast and piercing the point, like her first book, She's Got Issues. Rockin Robin is a psychotic mix of relations, betrayal, and vengeance (my favorite).

I love an empowered antiheroine! Robin is a trapped, submissive girl turned into a take charge, guns ablaze woman, doing what she feels, when she feels it, with no job or...

I liked it, an enjoyable read, moving fast and piercing the point, like her first book, She's Got Issues. Rockin Robin is a psychotic mix of relations, betrayal, and vengeance (my favorite).

I love an empowered antiheroine! Robin is a trapped, submissive girl turned into a take charge, guns ablaze woman, doing what she feels, when she feels it, with no job or man holding her back. I won't give away the conflict with Jiles, but I will say it smokes.

Whoa! Rockin Robin explores dark issues of abuse, tempered by unconditional love, lust, and lots of action. Odd as it may seem, imagine an urban version of The Color Purple, but this time Celie (Whoopi) is a Jackie Brown with guns.

4.0 out of 5 stars All I'm sayin is Dayum!!, August 5, 2005
This review is from: Rockin Robin (Paperback)
You know in this day and age, abuse is more than swept under the carpet. It's buried with our ancestors.

Stephanie Johnson, yes she paints a vivid and grotesque picture of abuse, however she also puts on the forefront the after effects of such victims.

Rockin Robin is a victim of abuse; all verbally, physically and sexually. She is forced to take on and live out other dimensions of her person that allows her to survive. While it was foul in it's delivery, Rockin Robin puts what we shoo away on a silver platter. I recommend this book to ANYONE who has been a victim and anyone who has victimized. I know a lot of you will not be happy with that statement but it is what it is.

This aspect of the novel served to convey the harshness of the story told in put you into the mind of its lead character. Juxtaposed to this facet of the book was its emphasis on the importance of family.

The characters described, although some were over the top, really kept your interest.

3.0 out of 5 stars rockin' robin, March 31, 2006
This review is from: Rockin Robin (Paperback)
This whole book was crazy! From page 123 to 140, there is a completely different book! Most excerpts of books are done at the end of the book, not during the book! Some serious proofreading or editing should be done.

This is a story about Robin a young woman who has been abused by her father since the young age of seven, while her mother looked the other way. Robin develops an alter ego named "Chrissy". Robin works at Gray Pearl, a hotel in Asbury Park, New Jersy as a reservation clerk. She has been going to Dr. Christopher for therapy to deal with her demons. She's friendly with Chanel one of the owners of the hotel. When Nelson Bray, a powerful lawyer checks into the hotel, Robin takes a liking to him. Robin tries to live a normal life, but when her mother is brutally killed by her father, her second personality surfaces calling herself "Rockin" and she's here to stay! This is where the crazy drama starts..."Rockin" is nothing like Robin and she's out for revenge, starting with her father.

Author Stephanie Johnson does a good job on this story about physical, mental and drug abuse and the after effects that it has on our children. Bravo Stephine.

4.0 out of 5 stars New and enlightening, September 1, 2005

This review is from: Rockin Robin (Paperback)
I thought Rockin Robin was a different kind of book. The author painted a vivid picture of Robin and her mental illness. As normal as she seemed to everybody, inside she soothes open wounds by taking refuge in her true soul, Rockin Robin (Chrissy) which pulls her through the most toughest of times. With both guns loaded, she tries to regain her identity despite the unpredictable outcome. Slighted with a little bit of humor, Rockin Robin makes for an easy and enjoyable read.

I have to add that I understand that authors can't write books that will please everybody all the time but it would be nice to see our young black people broaden their horizons and read something outside the drugs, killing and demise of our people. Support and encourage by giving your critism constructively not slamming our up and coming authors with usless reviews. I can't help but think that those of you who made such remarks are narrow in your thinking.

Ms. Johnson, it was a pleasure meeting you when you signed at Karibu. I'm looking forward to your next novel. Keep up the good work!
