Fiddlin' Rockabilly,
By Martin 13 (Slovenia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rockin' Rollin' Robbins (Audio CD)
Marty Robbins covered rockabilly and rock 'n' roll songs (That's All Right, Long Tall Sally, Maybellene,...), wrote few originals ("Mean Mama Blues", "Pretty Mama", "Tennessee Toddy", "Mister Teardrop"...). He was the first one who recorded "Singing the Blues" and "Knee Deep in the Blues" (both written by Melvin Endsley) but Guy Mitchell made it for a pop market and won. Same thing happened with "You Don't Owe Me a Thing". He wrote it but Johnnie Ray won the charts.

Rock'n Robbins!,

This review is from: Rockin' Rollin' Robbins (Audio CD)
Rock'n Roll'n Robbins / Marty Robbins Sings: This fantastic CD from Bear Family Records collects the Rockabilly tracks that legendary Country artist Marty Robbins cut during the early to mid 1950's. While it's obvious that Marty wasn't going to become a Rockabilly legend with these songs, it has to be said that these cuts are a Whole Lot of Fun to listen to. Marty Robbins may have been a Country Legend but he made records using several different styles during his career and so it should be no big surprise to any of his fans that he had given Rockabilly music a shot early on (although I doubt if there are many of his fans that know these recordings exist). This one is Highly Recommended.
