5.0 out of 5 stars KIDS NEVER SOUNDED BETTER, May 5, 2002

31 LIVE ROCKIN' TRACKS. THE COLLINS KIDS HAVE ALWAYS AMAZED ME WITH THEIR HOT & ROCKIN' HILLBILLY/ROCKABILLY MUSIC. THIS LIVE CD SURPASSES ANYTHING I'VE HEARD UP TO THEN. SONGS LIKE KOKOMO, BILL BAILY, WAY DOWN YONDER IN NEW ORLEANS, HOT ROD, DANCE TO THE BOP, & YES, HOUND DOG, ARE SOME OF THE GREATEST, RAW, ENERGIZED SONGS I'VE EVER HEARD. I WOULD PUT THIS ONE IN THE TOP TEN OF MY COLLECTION. BUY IT. YOU'LL GO NUTS OVER IT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Capturing The Collins Kids..., February 25, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rockin' On T.V. 1957-1961 (Audio CD)
Apart from their filmed Town Hall and Ranch Party performances, this audio-CD best captures what The Collins Kids were all about. Sure, the sound-quality is marginal, but nothing, and I mean NOTHING, could ever completely insulate us from the pleasurable jolts of Larry's and Lorrie's electricity.

And that's what I like most about this CD, the shock of its raw energy.

Besides the better-known cuts of "Hoy Hoy," "Hot Rod," and "Just Because," there are a number of lesser-known, but equally-excellent renditions, like "Wildcat", "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans," and "Catfish Boogie," as well as Lorrie's luscious "Love Me To Pieces," and Larry's crazed "Que Sera/Hound Dog," to mention but a few.

And before I purchased this CD I hadn't heard even one of these superb cuts!

While I highly recommend this release for devoted fans of The Collins Kids, I suggest, given the shaky sound-quality, that the uninitiated first try either of the audio-CDs "Rockin'est" or "Introducing Larry and Lorrie."

And finally, considering that most of the sensational tracks contained herein were lifted from the aforementioned Town Hall and Ranch Party performances, this release should be merely "Volume One" of two or more, given the wealth of material, such as the romping, stomping versions of "Blue Moon Of Kentucky," "Blues Medley" and "Shake Rattle And Roll," still-to-be mined from these wonderful shows.

Encore, please.

Introducing Larry and Lorrie

4.0 out of 5 stars The Collins Kids rock... live!!, July 8, 2002
This review is from: Rockin' On T.V. 1957-1961 (Audio CD)
Spunk galore as this brother-sister teen-scene rockabilly act rips, snorts and jokes their way through live performances on the legendary late '50s Los Angeles' country TV show, "Town Hall Party." Prepubescent electric guitar hero Larry Collins took lessons from show host Joe Maphis, and highlights of this disc include some of the stunning instrumental duets the two performed regularly on the program. Also, this disc reveals the Collins Kids' strong country music background, a side of them which is frequently neglected in recaps of their flashy recording career. Iffy sound quality, but great music.
