ALL THESE TRACKS ARE AVAILABLE ELSEWHERE IN FAR BETTER AUDIO!, October 10, 2007
This review is from: Rockin at Hops (Audio CD)
PLEASE NOTE: Due to Amazon's maddening and idiotic programming of cross-pollinating reviews between different releases of the same title, this review mistakenly also appears on the EXCELLENT 2010 Japan mini-sleeve version! The text below refers only to the old jewel case 1990's release.
Although this classic, five-star album is lamentably out-of-print, there's actually a silver lining to it's unavailability: This 1990 audio is waaaaaay out of date, and all the tracks herein are available on other Berry CD's with superior mastering.
You can find these tracks on either the 2000 2CD
Anthology or the 2007 3CD
Ultimate collections, save one, "Broken Arrow", which is now available on the 2007
"The Many Sides Of Chuck Berry"... the latter, BTW, being a magnificent 31-track, superbly annotated 180-degree "greatest hits" departure which focuses on his lesser known, but equally-enjoyable, material.
With a little smart Amazon shopping, I picked up all three of these collections for less than any of the high prices being asked for this single, out-of-print CD. Now I have 6CD's of Chuck, albeit with some overlap of material, but in far more enjoyable sound than this old, tired, obsolete-audio CD.

My favorite of the early Chuck Berry LPs, July 19, 2007
This review is from: Rockin at Hops (Audio CD)
My only complaint about this album is that the 26 minutes go by too fast! There are some great songs here that are hard to find elsewhere such as Bye Bye Johnny (sequel to Johnny B Goode), Down the Road Apiece (a cover by Chuck but its this version the stones cover themselves), Too Pooped to Pop , Mad Lad (in all music guide they mention this song must have influenced the beach boys), I got to find my baby (classic blues song) Betty Jean (I wonder if Springsteens Bobby Jean was a sorta tribute to this..we know Bruce loves Chuck as any self respecting rocker will), and Let it Rock (also covered by the Stones). I find I like this album better than Chuck Berry is on top , one dozen berrys and after school session which usually get the people raving more... I find that its more fun to hear the Berry songs that have not been beat to death.. Another example of this is his Chuck Berry in London LP which is virtually unheard of and virtually ignored for example on the Chuck Berry Chess Box Set.. Also I keep hearing things on this that might have influenced Dylan such as Worried Lfe Blues (someday baby on dylan's new album) even if this is a Berry cover I think it is Berry's version that might have influenced... Another great vocal arrangement is Childhood Sweetheart..I must admit I musst research to ,see who played on this album..was it Jimmie Johnson on piano for example? LONG LIVE CHUCK BERRY!!!
