5.0 out of 5 stars a pop-punk classic
With the intrinsic snottiness/goodtime vibe of all the classic 70s punks rolled into one nattily-dressed quartet, Hagfish was one Dallas band of the early nineties that stuck out like a sore thumb, but shone brightly. 5.0 out of 5 stars a pop-punk classic, February 21, 2004
This review is from: Rocks Your Lame Ass (Audio CD)
With the intrinsic snottiness/goodtime vibe of all the classic 70s punks rolled into one nattily-dressed quartet, Hagfish was one Dallas band of the early nineties that stuck out like a sore thumb, but shone brightly. Before the scene became so eclectic, most of the big bands of the time had the whole "Fraternity of Noise" sound down--e.g. Brutal Juice, Toadies, Caulk, et al., but Hagfish was there doing the fast, streamlined pop-punk stuff before Green Day ever dropped their platinum-coated "Dookie" bombs on the unsuspecting public, and it's a damn shame as to why Hagfish didn't turn out to be the big stars. As far as catchy, hook-filled melodic punk albums go, this has to definitely be in the top 10 of all time, right with the Ramones and the Buzzcocks. The band's tunes all pretty much sound the same, but who cares? This stuff flat out rocks, and singer/songwriter George Reagan (who is a dead ringer for Luke Perry on this album's cover) has an uncanny knack for melody. His voice brings tunes such as "Gertrude," "Stamp," "Happiness" and "Disappointed" all into the realm of "Sounds like Top 40 Modern Rock Radio." If you like Green Day and the current wave of pop-punkers, then you need this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hagfish knows how to please the ears, June 16, 2002
This review is from: Rocks Your Lame Ass (Audio CD)
Although Hagfish is not a music school graduate band, people who like short catchy punk songs will love this album. Hagfish was introduced to me about 5 years ago, I have since worn out 4 cassette copies of this album and lost 2 or 3 cd's of it to thieves also known as friends. From the first to the last song you will be surrounded with up beat lyrics and catchy riffs that make this album fly by. You'll get to the end and wonder why its over (and probably start it over). This album is definitely one of my top 20 favorites.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you are Curious about Hagfish, this is the record to buy, November 23, 1999
This review is from: Rocks Your Lame Ass (Audio CD)
This record is loaded with really cool songs. We are not talking about the Dead Kennedys here, but these guys are currently my favorite band out of Texas. If you like Lit, or even Eve 6, you should definately give this one a listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gimme something to hold onto, these boys are good!, August 30, 1998

This review is from: Rocks Your Lame Ass (Audio CD)
With the energy of a pack of sugar fed hyperactive 4 year olds, the combined swagger of Jimi Hendrix and the Brat Pack, Hagfish truely do rock Your Lame Ass. I picked up this classic of the Texas scene because I really liked the single Stamp, which received decent airplay on my local alternative radio station back in 1995. I figured since the band was unheard of aside from that one song that the album would be a one good track kind of thing. Was I wrong! Stamp, for all of its pubescent charm (what 18 year old boy wouldn't like a song with a hook like "we eat my box while I work")Stamp is not even the best song on this record. It is equaled or surpassed by tracks like Happiness, Bullet, Flat and Minit Maid. If you dig punk-lite/power pop bands, this record is a must have. To the best of my knowledge, it is their best work to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars The real deal., March 26, 2011
This review is from: Rocks Your Lame Ass (Audio CD)
As a bartender in the Deep Ellum District of Dallas Tx in the early 90's, I was lucky enough to see Hagfish play on many occassions. It was an exciting, crazy time for alt music in Dallas and Hagfish was leading the way. They were the real deal.. they had "it" and everyone knew it. How they managed to NOT be the biggest thing in music at the time is still beyond me. They were poised to be THE band to bring post grunge/neuvo punk to the masses but bands like Green Day and other similar overproduced 'punk' bands made it through first. This just makes Hagfish even more of a legend as far as Im concerned... Im sure they'd rather have the money. haha. I feel sorry for those who never got to witness a live Hagfish show and watch these guys get their punk swagger on. Honestly, George, Donny, Zach and Tony were as cool off stage as they were on. Hagfish was an intoxicating mixture of rude punk attitude and a campy smirk topped with a vodka martini and will forever be one of my favorite bands of all time. Love ya George!

3-4 excellent songs the rest is just to get an album-status rather then an ep status. But the good one... geeze, they rock :)

5.0 out of 5 stars MMM here we go again..., April 9, 2004

Rating is fun. I broke this disk out again this weekend. Timeless. I have bought it about 10 times, your welcome. Two car wrecks, stolen four times, stumbling down Greenville a couple and throwing one at the lady who comes out screaming when your pissing in her front yard. Yeah. Dallas Man. But seriously, George, boys, if you read this, come to Austin.
