DJ Irene Pushing the envelope,
By xXavierR "invadr zim" (pass christian, ms) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rockstar (Audio CD)
If you are a person who just casually listens to techno, or dance music in general, this cd may not be for you because of the 'non mainstreamist' reasons, though if you are an old skooler to the rave/house/progressive scene and/or an inspiring dj, or anyone who would like to hear what it really sounds like to push the envelope of djing to the edge, this cd is definitely for you. DJ Irene does it again, this time spinning the seemingly impossible, mixing rock/metal with techno. At first I didnt know what to expect but I made myself buy it because I am a big Dj Irene fan, and this is the best $17.00 investment I have ever made, if you like house/turntablism, even if you don't feel like ordering it off of the internet, you better step your [...] to the nearest music store and plant the cash because it's definitely worth your time!

another stylistic leap forward,

This album further progresses Irenes status as the most daring and forward looking dj in dance music today. Blending rock, house, trance, d n' b (or jungle whatever) together with ease and precision may sound impossible but she does it deftly. Not only does the cd span so many styles but she now has the clout to include producers tiesto and deep dishes tracks the latter of which completely rocks my world. If you catch a chance to see her live don't miss it because this woman knows how to work a crowd like few djs do. She is a true rock star.

After reading the press material sent with this CD, I didn't know what to expect when I put the CD in the stereo, but I knew whatever it was would be a musical education I wouldn't soon forget. I was right.
The CD kicks of with a lush rock sound featuring a heavy electric guitar solo, and then subtly the electronics and loops come in and transform the song into something you'd likely hear at your favorite leather-clad dance club ("Let's Rock 'N Roll"). The choir on "The Anthem 2004" sends shivers of pleasure and fear down my spine everytime that track comes around. I was reminded of the Elven choir on the soundtrack of the Lord of the Rings trillogy, but with a modern backbeat. "Da Chase" takes a page from the Never Ending Story soundtrack, or perhaps an old Nintendo fantasy/adventure. The latter seems more appropriate as the track shifts into "Grand Theft Audio". I have had the CD in my stereo for quite a while now, playing it over and over. It's even responsible for keeping me alert on a late night drive home from Seattle. The transitions from track to track are smooth and keep me from stoping the CD for anything -- even staying up past my bedtime until the track ends. The music gets under my skin and into my blood. I'll definitely have this one on the stereo the next time I have a gathering at my house.

This is what house is supposed to sound like,

Spank me sideways!! I am letting this cd live in my stereo. It has got everything a little trance, some dirty house and the drum and bass anthem (anthem 2004) rocked. this is what house is supposed to be, and even if you are an uncoordinated white guy like me you will find yourself moving, I swear it.

better than ever before,

I've been a DjIrene fan foryears and have explored much of her music. I've really enjoyed her recent stuff (fearless and phonosynthesis) as well as her older stuff (global house diva). I really like the way that she changes her style, it never leaves me bored. The latest installment to her discography is the best iv'e heared from her yet. The seamless fusion of rock, hard house, and d'n'b blows my mind. Her energy is incredible. This is the best cd iv'e ever purchased. This is one no true irene fan can go without.

I have been following DJ Irene for years and she is still banging hard, just in a different way. I have never heard anything like what I heard on this CD before, probably because someone like her was needed to pull it off. My complaint from day one is that she plays only short samples of tracks, I know most hard house djs seem to do this, but why why why?? If you like hardcore banging music, pick this up. If you like albums like Summerbreeze by Tiesto - buy Tiesto.

Irene's Greatest yet...,

To say that DJ Irene's mix cd's have been getting better, is a definite understatement. This cd is ridiculously good! Although she has matured out of the "LA Style" of Hard House (of which she was known for), she certainly has not lost her energy. In fact, her energy is even more electric. When she plays live, she is not just a DJ...but a performer as well. Rockstar cetainly shows the sort of live energy that Irene possesses. Irene continues to prove that she is arguably the most dynamic DJ in the business with this disc. Sure it is different....but man...fans of all styles of Electronic ,and even Rock, will love GUITARS with infused with ELECTRONIC beats! Amazing!!!

Steady Decline,
By
This review is from: Rockstar (Audio CD)
Over the years DJ Irene has been known as one of the largest DJ's in the world. I guess with increasing popularity only comes the inevitable decline that is mainstream. With a title like "Rock Star" it's no wonder why Irene seems to have an ascent into the bad DJ hall of fame. I have seen Irene live several times and it shows in her performances as well. With each new release I see this once acclaimed producer falling into a deeper and deeper hole. You want good Irene CD's refer back to the Club series mixes and the Hard House Diva ones as well. Don't agree with me, spend two months in the scene and you will see why Irene is simply the record labels new project.

Lemme start off by saying this is a disgrace to electronic dance music!I have been listening to dance music for many years now and I have an excellent earshot for it.This is the kinda quality that some beginning dance music fan or someone all geeked up on speed would like.Hard House is not for everyone, and the songs are way too short on most of her stuff.I dont like much house I know good music when I see it,and this is SUCKY.Maybe its just that I have already heard the kinda house I like and thats progressive like Tall Paul and Dave Aude.Rock and House just don't mix well together, sorry!I like some of her stuff such as "Audio Underground" and "Fearless"...those were good mixes but this one just doesn't cut it folks.Irene you have lost a fan girl!Let rock be rock and let house be house ,please! Can you imagine a bunch of headbangers mixing with ravers at a party ...wtf?I dont think so,it'd be a friggin nightmare.Maybe Irene should go join Tiesto on the quest for crap.Dont waste your money on this garbage unless you are stupid!
