Rocksteady takes us back to the early days of what was to become Reggae. The trip back is guided by singers and musicians who were there at the start. No one else can provide you with the true sway and way of Roots music than someone who was instrumental in its development. For those new to the music genre and long time fans this is a great musical history of the people that started the Reggae movement and are still available to us. If you have the chance to catch the documentary of this record, do so. It is not to be missed. I highly recommend this item.

I think I was Googling for information on rocksteady when I first learned about the German-made film starring these amazing Old Masters of Jamaican music. With musical direction by guitarist Ernest Ranglin and modern production values, what a treat it is to hear these classic songs performed so warmly and intimately, yet clearly and crisply.

The singers and instrumentalists are all highly renowned and span a large swath of Jamaican music history from ska to late roots and deejaying. Includes an informative booklet with photos. There is NO WAY I was going to miss this modern classic and the opportunity to hear these wonderful performers working together again, and if you truly love Jamaican music, neither should you.

If you're a true lover of "Roots" reggae you have to have this album. The album is complete with incredible performances of truly great artist. Additionally, this is the sound track for an up and soon to come documentary. I have not skipped one track. A must buy !
