Poor Accessory for a Good Product,
By DaveG (Scotts, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rockwell Jawhorse RK9204 Work Table Accessory Attachment (Tools & Home Improvement)
First, let me say that I REALLY like the JawHorse. It's a great addition for a one-man shop. That said, I was a bit disappointed in this accessory. It is OK, and will be fine for most painting, sanding, scraping type work, but it's really not up to the standard of the JawHorse, and I would not call it "heavy-duty". It seems to be built more to the standard of a workmate-type product.
The table is only 1/2" thick, giving it a pretty light duty feel. The guide tubes are a little on the loose side, so that the two halves of the work table can (and do) move out of alignment when you bring them together. The misalignment isn't terrible, probably about 1/16", but it would be a problem if you need a truly flat surface. Not sure how they came up with the maximum opening of 22" mentioned in the product description. The maximum opening between the halves is only 5". There is a maximum clamping capacity of about 15" if you install the clamp dogs in their outermost positions, but there is no way to clamp anything larger than this unless you remove the guide tubes. Removing the guide tubes is NOT recommended in the manual, and I believe removing them would cause problems in clamping and, potentially, damage to the tool. The clamping dogs are plastic. I believe they would withstand pretty high pressure, but not the full clamping force the JawHorse is capable of. This is a bit of a concern since the design of the JawHorse makes it very easy to apply a LOT of pressure.

I purchased this Item on Amazon.com and have never been so disappointed in a tool. The painted protractor rubbled off with in the first hour of use.
When I used it to clamp a piece of 6" wide wood the movable leaf lifted over the stationary leaf and popped my piece right out of the jaws. No matter how I tried to use more or less pressure it would lift the piece and would not lay flat. Rockwell should be ashamed of themselves for advertising this as it does. Regards Lou

I was hesitant about purchasing this item after reading the one review at the time that gave it only TWO STARS.
In my opinion the quality is great. Yes you could purchase your own lumber, angle iron, pipe, screws and bolts from Lowes or Home Depot and build one but unless you are a contractor and have special connections you will be paying more than the $54 I paid for this. But then again, it could be like the old "Electronic Heathkits" of years ago. You get the enjoyment and satisfaction of putting it together. (I built an oscillosope decades ago) Note that the thickness of the board is made up of THREE layers sandwiched or glued together. The outer two layers are constructed of strips of bamboo about 5/8 inch wide. Within each strip you see the yearly growth ring of the bamboo. The thickness of the three layer board is 0.631 inches (measured with calipers) When closed, the table measures 24" by 14" When fully opened, the table measures 24" by 18-3/4" The lower right area of the work table has a 3-1/8" hole with a stencil showing hand drill with drill bit. Note that this hole for the drill is NOT shown in the current picture supplied by amazon.com Another hole 1-1/4" is located on the other board. It has what appears to be a metal collar inserted into it. Could be used to hold a one inch pipe upright I guess. A caution stenciled on the table top states "Maxium load 220 lbs (100 kg) I would purchase again.

My shop turns into a garage when my wife gets home. The workbench gives me a way to hold stock for drilling or planing and can be left on the jawhorse when I fold it up and put it away. The bench doesn't have a great expanse and holding long pieces of wood can be tricky. Don't worry about the strength of the plastic bench dogs they will hold up to great amounts of pressure. They left marks in wood with only light pressure on the vice. The other drawback is the way it mounts. It takes some time to screw the bench onto the jaws of the vice. I am not sorry that I bought this item but I do wish it was engineered better.

I purchased the Jawhorse a few weeks ago and like it a lot, much more than the workmate 550 I have. I decided to purchase the table as a replacement for the workmate but I could be happier with the implementation.
Pros: Nice clamping for small objects Light and easy to store Cons: Have to take the pads off the Jawhorse The opening is small (~4.5") Takes too much time to add/remove the table The first problem can be remedied by simply getting longer bolts which I will do tomorrow. The opening can be addressed by replacing the shafts with longer versions (PVC). By eliminating the need for pad removal adding and removing the table becomes much faster. Once fastened to the jawhorse the table works well, I was able to route a template opening with a 7518 - no problem, stable and sturdy. It would be easy to build your own table with MDF, angle iron and c-clamps. Now that I have the table I wished I had built my own.

I was a little disapppointed with how light weight the accessory table was at first. I also wished it would open wider. After using it to hole down things such as fire wood while I cut in and other awkward thing as well as heavy materials I'm now impressed with it. I have two of the old Workbench tables with the hand cranks on them. They take a while to open and close but with the Jawhorse and the tale attachment it is fast open and fast close and it holds a the objects tighter. I like the whole Jawhorse setup so much I'm thinking about getting another one to use with other attachments.

The Jawhorse work table works as advertised, the one shortcoming is that everything is printed on the wood, which wears off - it would have been better if the printed items were stamped on with a hot burning tool, thus imbedding the writing and symbols in the wood. Other than that it works fine

I purchased the worktable accessory attachment at the same time that I bought the Jawhorse, and together they have performed exceptionally well. My husband has used the worktable to secure several tools while completing a project out of town, and he indicates that the worktable is sturdy, held the equipment securely, and is a useful addition to his workshop. Its portability is also a plus, since it is not bulky or awkward to transport. As a former industrial education teacher, he judges equipment (in part) on its durability and functionality, and both the Jawhorse and this attachment meet those standards. He has been nothing but pleased with this item.

This item is made well, but rather useless. It does not attach / detatch easily, and doesnt offer much more than any peice of plywood wouldn't. The jaw horse is great, this.........
