4.0 out of 5 stars Carbide Grit Segment saw blade, standard - not good!
I bought the Sonicrafter kit "Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-pc Kit", and the Carbide Grit Segment saw blade was included as one of the attachments. Unfortunately the thing is made from what can only be described as "a thin bit of tin", and as soon as it touched the first thing I tried to cut, the 'teeth' that connect it to the Sonicrafter shaft rounded off! 3.0 out of 5 stars Expensive replacement blades
I used this blade to remove sanded grout ( 1/2" W X 1/2" Depth) and about 30' in length. It worked pretty damn good... The blade just wore out too fast, so I bought a couple more. It would be nice if the replacement blades were a little cheaper though. I might purchase the diamond coated blades next time, even though they are about $20 more a piece they should last...

4.0 out of 5 stars Carbide Grit Segment saw blade, standard - not good!, March 28, 2009
This review is from: Rockwell RW9124 Sonicrafter 2-1/2-Inch Carbide Grit Segment saw blade, Standard, 1-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement)
I thought maybe I hadn't tightened the screw enough so offset it by one tooth and tried again. Basically the metal is so thin that it's not physically possible to really tighten the screw enough to hold this in place, so it rounded the teeth again. So it's for the trash, and I haven't even used it once!

Having said all that, I have successfully used other attachments (which are made of thicker material) to cut through drywall and wood. One of the jobs I bought this for was grout removal, but haven't tried that yet.

I haven't had the problem of the attachments coming loose, but I can imagine that over time that might start to become a problem. A quick release mechanism would have been better, especially if you have a variety of tasks to do in short order, but for now I'm trying to minimize the blade changes in order to avoid wearing out the screw.

Have owned the Sonicrafter for a couple weeks now, with the first project being a complete regrout of a shower. The tool is a champ....working for long periods and no issues EXCEPT the the carbide grit blade! This blade works great but wears out very fast!! At around 20+ dollars per blade that's not acceptable. I decided to try the BOSCH Bosch OSC312RF 3-1/2-Inch by 7/8-Inch RIFF Grout Blade which is how it should be. I've already put used this way beyond where the Rockwell blade quit and it barely is showing wear.... unlike the Rockwell blade that is now completely worn out with no grit left on it at all. To sum it up ROCKWELL MAKES A GREAT TOOL....NEED TO UP THE QUALITY OF GROUT BLADE. I'm not sure about the others yet, so I'll give them the benefit of doubt on those. (I bought the super professional pack) ...

4.0 out of 5 stars Works for what it is designed for, February 21, 2011

The major problem that many of the negative reviewers is probably that they did not read the user manual. The user manual clearly states DO NOT FORCE THE POWER TOOL. I tried cutting some 1/2 slate with this little bit and I didn't expect it to do well or fast on stone since it was not designed to do so. But I was surprised. I did not force it. I simply held the power tool an guided it. I let the tool do the work with light pressure to keep the blade on the piece and it worked fine. It was not fast at cutting, but why would it? It was not designed for stone, but it still worked. I cut 2 feet in about 1 hour. Perfect for the small amount of cutting I needed to do. I would have used a wet saw, but the slate was already installed on the floor. A diamond blade probably would have worked better. I also used the triangular carbide rasp that came with the unit and that performed as expected, well. Yes, it looks like it is copper but it is not. It is coated with a copper looking material. It is thin metal, so if you FORCE IT, it will bend. I wish people would pay attention to the user manual and not muscle it. It is a high frequency oscillator, like an orbital sander. People who have experience with orbital sanders know NOT TO FORCE IT. That is why we have power tools, duh!

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor grout blades, December 2, 2010
This review is from: Rockwell RW9124 Sonicrafter 2-1/2-Inch Carbide Grit Segment saw blade, Standard, 1-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement)
Previously owned a Fein, currently own a Rockwell and a Dremel Multi-Max. I have put away the Rockwell and am sticking with the Multi-Max for grout removal applications. Their grout blades last much longer and I believe they are about the same price. I like the power of the Rockwell tool but its a bit heavy and the accessories do not last very long compared to Fein and Dremel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cuts Great, July 13, 2009
This review is from: Rockwell RW9124 Sonicrafter 2-1/2-Inch Carbide Grit Segment saw blade, Standard, 1-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement)
I am using this blade to cut out Hardie Plank siding around windows, vents, and fixtures. It cuts fast and clean with a minimal abount of dust. I am not sure if I would use this on grout like others have, the blade is too thin for that application.

This is truly the handiest tool ever. Use it for almost every repair and craft you can think of! The carbide blade works perfectly for removing grout from tiles.
