Pros:
- cuts well
- requires little effort, even on thick leather or even plastic sheeting
- goes through material very quickly due to blade speed

Cons:
- very difficult to control
- not for making precise cuts at all
- operates at a very awkward angle due to how it attaches to a SoniCrafter

I make leather holsters and was hoping this would allow me to cut leather to the shape I needed. This would have been awesome, since the material is thick and difficult to cut in one pass with a knife. Sadly, it's uncontrollable on curves and corners, so it doesn't suit my purpose. The SoniCrafter is hard to control as it is, let alone when you have to hold it sideways when using this attachment. I ruined several expensive pieces of leather trying to use this to shape leather to my patterns.

That doesn't mean it's no good, however. For material cutting in straight lines, it's an absolute CHAMP! I've used it to break down large boxes into pieces that fit my trash can, cutting long srips of paper and leather, and trimming carpet/linoleum. It cuts so fast and so clean that you'll be surprised how little effort it takes to cut tough material.

Bought this for my husband. He has cut very heavy vinyl garage flooring with it. He reported no problems, easy to use, and powerful for their size. Would definitely recommend this product.

While installing some built-in bookcases, I had to cut away some carpet. I started out using some heavy duty scissors. What a pain! Then I remembered my SoniCrafter and that scissor thing that I hadn't had a chance to use yet. It took a minute to get the SoniShear attached snugly enough for the scissor action to kick in. Once I got it figured out though this thing is amazing! It cut the thick pile carpet and the thick foam underlayment like butter. What a time (and effort) saver!
I can't wait to use it on a leather project I have planned.

I was looking for something to cut up cardboard besides a razor knife. Too much time with a boxcutter on cardboard started to give me the creeps about accidents.Everything I checked out was either cheap and underpowered or powerful and expensive. When I ran into the SoniShear, it sure looked like it would cut good and the cutting design was nice and the price was good but I had a Fein MultiMaster. I bought the attachment anyway and hoped to modify it. And sure enough, if you take the SoniShear apart for easy sanding, in 1/2 hour you can make it fit a Fein. I couldn't be more pleased with this as a light cutter. The SoniShear attaches real fast and stays tight and secure to the Fein. It will literally go thru cardboard like a hot knife thru butter. If you are going to get one for a Fein, the adapter won't help. The part that needs to be modified is the plastic housing and a slight bit on the metal hex that attaches to the vibrating barrel. I highly recommend it plus the project to make it fit is kind of fun.

THE GOOD: This attachment is awesome. I've cut everything with them. By far saves so much time. I've re-done vinyl flooring in half the time (4 bathrooms). Used them for cutting out old carpet into small manageable pieces - it just zips right through. Of course plastic, cardboard, etc.

THE BAD: Carpet fibers can get tangled up in it but can be avoided if you go slow. Keep away from kids & fingers!

OVERALL: they're awesome - no buyers remorse here.

I used this shear attachment one time, to cut a 6' x 6' piece of vinyl flooring, and it worked great until the rivets that hold it together let go. Up until it failed, it cut the flooring like butter, and was easy to control in a straight line. Unfortunately, it was too good to be true. If not for the shabby construction, I would have rated it five stars.
