First off, this is NOT the Richard O'Brien / Tim Curry cast we all know and love, but rather the "Christopher / Emery Company." Therefore, it should not be titled highlights from the Rocky Horror "Picture" Show. To be fair to buyers, the word "picture" should not be included so we all know it's an interpretation of the stage play and NOT highlights from the "original soundtrack" of the movie as Amazon states. However, so be it.

Whatever you call it, this recording is shockingly horrible. How did the Christopher / Emery Company ever get a government allocation of precious, precious plastic to make the CDs this drek was burned on to? (It was actually made in Canada, so maybe that's the way to go if you want to get past those discerning U.S. government plastic allocators...)

If you're looking for specific reasons why this recording is shockingly horrible, you're in luck. The lead singers are off-key and sound slightly embarrassed and confused, the background singers sound like an angry, groggy mob that just woke up from a long nap, and the instrumental accompaniment is weak and features heavy use of what sounds like a child's electric keyboard (or possibly even the illustrious Key-tar). Think it sounds bad enough to be hilariously enjoyable? Think again! It's painful, both to the ears and the soul.

I'm not even a Rocky Horror aficionado. I like some of the songs, and wanted a recording that didn't include "Touch-A, Touch-A, Touch Me." I'm not a fan of that song. Don't get me started. I innocently and excitedly purchased this CD, and now I'm trying to figure out what to do with it because I hate to just throw it away and have it join its brothers and sisters in the landfills of North America... Maybe I'll send it back to the Canadian music label and ask them to do with it what they see fit. Possibly they can melt it down and reuse the precious, precious plastic for another glorious Christopher / Emery Company audio feast.
