5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE IT!
It's so bad that it can't be overlooked. By me that is. It's like a really bad high school production.

I had always thought that the whole "Antici....PATION" was there from the very beginning, but it wasn't. But, it's still great to hear Tim a few years younger here. And to hear Rocky having more to sing than just "Sword of Damocles" and "Rose Tint My...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok!
I'm a fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and thusly I have several cds full of Rocky music. This is probably my least favorite one in my collection. That being said, it really isn't bad at all.

First off, the cast is great. Our Frank, Riff, Columbia, and Magenta are the same cats from the film and they all do a fantastic job. Nell could squeal a bit...

I'm listening to this CD while I'm typing this and laughing my head off. It's so much fun. If not enjoy this for it's historical signifigance(historical as in this recording is 31 years old), then listen to it if you need a really good laugh.

Out of all the recordings of this show I own(2000 cast, 1974 cast, and movie soundtrack), I personally like the 2000 cast.

But, this cast album is very fun. The energy of the opening of a brand new show with people who were just getting to know each other is wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars chelsea girl, March 30, 2006
This review is from: The Rocky Horror Show (Original 1973 London Cast - Rhino) (Audio CD)
This is the only authentic theatrical rendition of RHS as it was originally intended. There is none of the 'belting it out' of the Roxy version, and later versions lack subtlety and drama.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cd! A must have for Rocky Lovers, February 9, 1999

This CD is great. The music is better than in the movie, and I like it better than the Roxy cast. It's interesting and fun to hear Tim Curry, Ritz O'Brien, Patricia Quinn and Little Nell do the same parts they did in the movie. It has speaches from the Crim, too.

For whatever reason the original 1973 London Cast is my favorite recording of The Rocky Horror Show. When you think about that Cast Recording, infamously recorded in one day, is truely horrendous. The orchestrations are amteurish, and the performers are more enthusiastic then trained, but it's just fun, and I take it over any polsihed and finetuned or even complete recording ( a staple for me when it comes to cast recordings) anyday.

However, all that aside, I think the reason I like it so much is because it has, for the most part, the cast which I'm glad to call definitive. That would be Tim Curry as Frank, Richard O'Brien as Riff Raff, Pat Quinn as Magenta, and Little Nell as Columbia, and having John Adams as The Narrator dosen't hurt either (he's fantastic). I was first introduced to that lot in those roles when I saw the film, and I suppose I find comfort in that they were all equally represented in their roles on stage, from the begining.

The quality of it all really adds to the experience for me though. Somethign about small scale Off*13 Broadway productions always gave me chills of excitement, the idea of a band of nobodies coming together to put on a show with little or no budget but a lot of spunk and that's what this cast has - spunk. I true, raw understanding of it all, and I love it.

Nell could squeal a bit more and Riff could scream a bit more, but overall if you like them in the film, you'll like them on this. The guy who plays Eddie/Dr. Scott has a great punk snarl. Brad and Janet's voices don't really impress me very much.

Musically, the show is pretty sparse when compared to other versions. It is certainly not orchestral like the movie, and the Roxy version really gets amped up. This version just sounds a bit tame.

Overall, I'd say if you're a fan of the music already, this album is worth owning. Especially if you're into Tim Curry's growling.

5.0 out of 5 stars ROCKY HORROR IN THE FLESH!!!!, April 29, 2005
This review is from: The Rocky Horror Show (Original 1973 London Cast - Rhino) (Audio CD)
This is where it all started, kids. Tim Curry in his first version of the role of Frank N Furter . Believe it or not, Frank N Furter was BLONDE for the stage role in London! It sounds so cheezy, yet you want more of it. The music itself is even more low budget than the film, but its just enough for the london stage to make it absolutely fabulous. SCIENCE FICTON/DOUBLE FEATURE is better here. Much faster and more upbeat with Little Nell singing it in a different tone....

I would give anything to see video of the original london cast in action. Its the beginning, of a cult classic. Other Rising star in this, Christopher Malcolm, who later plays Saffron's Father on BBC's "Absolutely Fabulous"

4.0 out of 5 stars Better then the movie in most cases, February 16, 2003
This review is from: The Rocky Horror Show (Original 1973 London Cast - Rhino) (Audio CD)
I love this cd! Simply put, it rocks my socks! Pat Quinn's version of Science Fiction is much more upbeat and rocky then Richard's movie version. Although Tim Curry is not quite as fabulous as in the movie, he's nothing to sniff at. I don't like the version of Hot Patootie much and i think Susan Sarandon's voice fits the Janet part better but all in all, an awesome addition to my collection !

A must-have for any true Rocky Horror fan, but, a very different version than what you have come to love.

It was great when it all began, I was a regular Rocky Horror fan, it was over when he had the plan, to start a working on a new type of Transvestite clan, now the only thing that give me hope, Is shouting vulgarities at a screen & smokin' dope, Rose tints my world, keeps me safe from my trouble & pain...

This is a great CD, if you like and understand musicals, especialy if you have seen and fell in love with The Rocky Horror Show. It's also a great gift for fans of Tim Curry, like me :). Yes, the movie sound track does rock out better, and if you're a fan of the movie more than the show than yu'd like the movie soundtrack better, but if you're a hardcore fan of Rocky, then this is a must have.
