5.0 out of 5 stars Rocky III Review
Oh man! This CD is cool. Though, it does contain songs from the first two Rocky soundtracks (like, Reflections from Rocky, Conquest from Rocky II, and Gonna Fly Now from Rocky) it still contains some really new and fresh songs like Eye Of The Tiger, Take You Back (Tough Gym), a new version of Take You Back performed by Frank Stallone, Mickey, Adrian, Decision, and...

2.0 out of 5 stars Rocky III Soundtrack is Retread
After the overwhelming success of the magnificent soundtracks to Rocky and Rocky II, Bill Conti is left with the unenviable task of reviving once again most of the same music and presenting it "fresh" in Rocky III. Unfortunately, one can only play a dime for so long before losing it, and this is what happens in Rocky III.

My personal favorites are "Eye Of The Tiger", "Take You Back (Tough Gym)", "Pushin", "Take You Back", and "Gonna Fly Now" If you have got a few bucks to spend and you want to have great songs like Pushin', Eye of the Tiger, or both Take You Back songs this is the one to get. Heck, how about getting all of the Rocky soundtracks like I did (except Rocky 5 because I do not care for Rap) and listen to them over and over again, sounds great to me!

Unfortunately, one can only play a dime for so long before losing it, and this is what happens in Rocky III.

It's virtually the same music as in the first two Rocky movies, with only a few new compositions. The movie's theme, Eye of the Tiger" is moving and full of energy, but is this one track enough to justify purchasing this album? "Adrian" is another "new" track, but it is vry similar to other instrumental love tracks in the previous Rocky movies. Recycled once again are "Conquest", "Gonna Fly Now", "Take Me Back", and "Reflections". All the previously mentioned are in my opinion inferior to their originals.

In short, the music on this album falls short of the Rocky standard and is TK'od by the originals. I'd skip this album, as the music is avaliable on other releases. This album is only for the consumate Rocky fan collector who needs completion in their collection.

Hear legendary French horn player Vincent DeRosa at his best on a solo piece composed by the great Bill Conti.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, solid soundtrack for the Italian Stallion, January 19, 2012

This one was my introduction to the Rocky movies (I was too young to have seen/understood Rocky 1 & 2). I was about 11 when it was released, and just remember it being GREAT! One of the best things about it was the score by Bill Conti - my brother & I were part of a band that routinely used 'Gonna Fly Now'. My brother had this soundtrack on LP when it was released, and I recently picked it up in CD format again.

I'm not familiar with the preceding 'Rocky' films, so I can't make the comparison as to the music that others have made. However, this was a great collection all the same. 'Eye of the Tiger', of course, figured prominently in 1982 because of its inclusion here. 'Pushin' and 'Take You Back', performed by Stallone's brother Frank, were set-pieces for certain scenes, as was 'Take You Back [Tough Gym]' where Rocky goes with Apollo Creed to restart his training & regain his edge after Mickey's death. The selection used for Mickey's passing features solos by well-known Hollywood French Horn musician Vincent DeRosa (who has performed on many other soundtracks) and Mike Lang on piano. 'Conquest', one of the few orchestral selections, is an ominous-sounding selection featuring low string tones & frequent trumpet/trombone fanfares as Rocky takes on Clubber Lang for the 2nd time, landing multiple punches.

Overall, a great collection for one of Stallone's great Rocky films.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocky III, April 19, 2010

I own all of the Rocky movies. I think this one is one of my favorites. Almost all of the emotions a man have can have run through this movie. But, they certainly do through all the Rocky movies as a whole. This Rocky movie shows how he really has to dig deep into everything he has to keep what he has. His integrity, and loose his inner fear. A tremendous movie about the feelings that command us and the lengths we will go to free ourselves of the demons that follow us. I found that the Rocky films had because of my personal circumstances, had a deep impact on my life, and it came to a matter of whether I survived or not. Those are serious strengths in a movie. I only wish I had a way tell this to Mr. Stallone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many retreds, March 25, 2009
All of the songs are good, especially Eye of the Tiger, but to use the same version of Gonna Fly Now from the first film here, when you had such a nice, up-tempo/disco/rock version of it in the movie - I don't understand. (BTW, the training sequence in Rocky III is my favorite out of the series - seeing Paulie pulled in the pool near the end was awesome!)

They did the same thing with the Rocky II soundtrack. The version used in the movie is different from the one on the soundtrack

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational and stimulating, October 5, 2004

I have all the soundtracks for Rocky 1-4 (as a Rocky fan I don't reckon that a fifth movie was made and I don't even know if they released a soundtrack?) and they're all great. Some people might think it's a little bit too pompous and pretentious...but I think it's just inspirational and stimulating!

If you're doing sport, out running or lifting weights, it might be a good idea to put on Rocky! The music makes you fly, and even if you're not climbing the Rocky Steps in Philly, you know that you could do that if you had them in front of you. This music inspires...
