This game is not very good, but it is okay. The graphics are good, but the game gets old after you win the extremely short movie mode. Overall this game is average. You are better off getting the victorious boxers game.

Having played the Playstation 2 and Xbox and versions of the game at ECTS 2002 trade show I can tell you that Rocky is quite simply the best movie licences ever produced and one of the best games you will have played for many a long year.
Fans of the movie are going to love it because the game has a visual flair and an immense depth that recreates the sweet science of boxing perfectly and even if you have no knowledge of the Rocky films you will not believe the enjoyment this game can induce.

The boxing itself is easily the best 3D interpretation of the sport to date and makes all other contenders, such as Knockout Kings 2002, Ready 2 Rumble and Mike Tyson's Boxing, look punch-drunk has-beens surviving on past glories.
The graphics are excellent, great lighting effects, fully 3D crowds, and the atmosphere and fantastic soundtrack all use the Playstation 2 and Xbox power to full effect.

The single player mode is superb, but get together with some friends for a session in Exhibition mode and you can expect whoops and hollers to rival the best multiplayer games.
In fact this game has the only multiplayer game to rival Halo.

This brilliant arcade boxing game is based on all five films, and a worthy accompaniment to them. The beauty is that gamers unfamiliar with the series will admire Rocky for its power and simplicity, while film buffs who know little about games will appreciate how true the spirit of the celluloid version it is.

It has captured the essence of Stallone's scripts, acting and OTT fight sequence with remarkable flair.
Fan of the movie? Get Rocky! Fan of boxing games? Get Rocky? Fan of the Playstation2/Xbox? GET ROCKY

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, not the best, June 7, 2003

This game is pretty good, but it is certainly not the best it could be. This game has the "Good Things" and the Bad Things." I'll start with the good.
The Good Things
1.The graphics are good, but not the best. Some of the boxers are not as muscular as they should be, but the graphics aren't solid like The Legend of Zelda Windwaker.
2. The story is great. It basically follows the Rocky movie series. I do wish you could be boxers like Clubber Lang and Apollo Creed during movie mode.

3. Every button on the left control pad is a punch, and you can use the arrows and the "R1" button to combine with the other buttons to make a stronger or faster punch.
4. The variety of characters is amazing. Once you beat the game, there are many characters, such as Ivan Drago, you can be during exhibition mode. Now for the bad things.
The Bad Things
1. On movie mode, once you get to a certain point the game becomes virtually impossible. The beginning of the game through the Rocky IV part is no challenge.
2. It is really hard to gain points for strength, speed, stamina etc. unless you use auto train. The only easy one to gain points is for strength. You also lose points when you win a fight.
3. You almost always fight a boxer with points that exceed yours. But for me, stats doesn't really matter, because I kick their butts!
Those are really the goods and the bads about Rocky. If you are a huge Rocky fan, I definitely reccomend this game. If you are uncertain about the game, like I was, rent it first. Again, this isn't as good as it could be, but overall is a really good game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Game, May 16, 2005
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
I was in Sam's the other day, and I had 15 dollars to blow. I had a choice between this game and Knockout Kings, both obviously older games. I chose this one, thinking that the movie mode would be good. Boy was I right. I have never before beat a game by myself. Usually I get to about the 5th level and just give up and my brother beats it. Not so with this one. You have to fight in the actual venues Rocky fights in, from the chapel to the Philadelphia Arena. The only thing was that it is maybe too easy. The only boxer that I had trouble beating was Big Chuck Smith. This game stays true to the movies and the graphics are wonderful for a game made in 2001. Also this game stays true to actual boxing, not this street fighting stuff that some games have (Although Rocky does fight Tommy Gunn outside Mick's Gym). This game was definitely worth the 15.00 I paid for it, and I would reccomend it to anyone

iu myself am a huge fan of the movies so I had to get the game, and it was worth while to.
It has great sound affects and the graphics are great, along the way you can fight from spider rico to the greats like Ivan Drago and Tommy Gunn.
I reccommend it for anyone!

4.0 out of 5 stars GET THIS GAME!!, January 20, 2004

If you are a fan of the movies, you are going to love this game. It is difficult enough to be a chalange, yet the controlls are simple enough to be enjoyable. One of the best boxing sims i have ever played. The unique training mode really makes the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocky is totally Underrated, September 26, 2003

I am shocked that so many video game sites wrote this game off as mediocre. There is nothing mediocre about the game, yeh it has it's flaws, but so does every game. There are a couple different modes in the game: Knockout, Exhibtion, and Movie. Movie Mode is where you can unlock all the characters & arenas. Some of the boxers in the game you can unlock: Tommy Gunn, Ivan Drago, Clubber Lang, Apollo Creed, Union Cane, Joe Czak, Billy Snow, The Rock Statue (yes it is alive lol), and good ol' Mickey Goldmill Rocky's Trainer. The Movie Mode follows the storyline from the Rocky I-V you first battle as Rocky I then II then III then IV and finally at V. The graphics are pretty good, gameplay rocks, and it's certainly worth $19.99, but certainly not $49.99 when it orignally came out. So if you're a big fan of the Rocky films, I highly recommend getting this game, you'll have fun playing it.

Prognosis: Excellent

Being that I am a Rocky fan, I wanted this game for x-mas. I enjoyed playing it. They got many of the movie locales down nicely and the main boxers from the film looked like they were supposed to. I also liked the fact they used actual boxer names from the film (they did cheat a little bit using 'Kofi Langton instead of Jeff Langton'). There would be a few things I would change. I think that any boxer should be allowed to compete in the movie mode, not just Rocky. Also the scoring was a little messed up as no round ever went under 10-8. Probably the toughest boxer to face in the movie mode is Tim Simms. I can't beat him without cheat codes. I liked all the made up locales like the 8 Ball Club, Liberty College, Big Rock Arena, and Titan Beach. This is a must for any Rocky fan, and better than some of the boxing games I've played in the past year or so.

5.0 out of 5 stars This game has the eye of the tiger, December 26, 2002

Any Rocky fan will enjoy this game. Everything is perfect, with the exception of whoever was imitating Burgess Merrideth (Mickey). Mickey sounds constapated. Other than that small flaw, the rest of the game is perfect.

Rent or Buy?: First a quick test:
1) What is Mickey's last name?
2) In which Rocky film is Rocky in his Prime?
3) Is there going to be a Rocky VI?
4) What is Drago's first name?
5) What is tommy gunn's nickname?

Answers:
1) Goldmill
2) Rocky III
3) Yes
4) Ivan
5) Tommy "Machine" Gunn

If you got one or more of these right, you must like Rocky, and if so, you MUST buy this game.

GC/XBOX/PS2?:
I have played GC and PS2 versions, and PS2 version is the best of the two.

this game is rather ingenious, and i say that because no one ever thought to make a game out of such a sucessful linear non-star-wars or action/adventure movie. i rank this game w/ KO Kings 2002, i am a huge Rocky Balboa fan (Rocky: II;III;IV) anyway, i had some skepticism of this game because of The Mike Tyson game(awful!).

however this game is very promising, right now, i am in the movie mode and i have completed Rocky I, so now i am in Rocky II and darn-it it is gettin' crazy, the AI is really smart. the fighters at this point are alot smarter, they will try and trick you. you will be fighting in a round and you will be ahead, then the round is over, both fighters will get a score say rocky-10 and the other fighter-8, so your up by 2 points, well if you don't KO your opponent you will lose if you don't have more points than him. then the other guy starts to get a huge second wind and it's curtains for rocky. that is how you get tricked. one other thing that .... as you progress through the game is that you have to get your self up if you get knocked down (flaw) like in the Tyson Boxing game. another thing that stinks is this game fighting combos are pretty limited. i mean you start to get whaled on w/ the stronger fighters and all you have as a strategy is to 'bob-n-weave' and back away and sneak in some upper-cuts when you get a chance.

creativity, you don't find this in many fighting games, but this one has it. i love how the movie mode really correspondes w/ the movies. it is so neat, i won't spoil it, you just have to see for yourself. anyway, i will keep at it, i really want to beat this game, i beat KO kings w/ Joe Frazier to Ali and that wasn't easy, by the way i did it twice, so i hope that i can do it again w/ this one. i really recommend that people buy this game, because it has enough other stuff to keep gamers happy.

outta' 10, i gave it 8.2
