THE ROCKY ROAD
Throughout many people's lifetimes, they are met with some type of adversity or strive- whether it be the loss of a job, a relationship, financial security, or the loss of a loved one. It is not the situation itself that carries so much significance, but how a person overcomes the obstacle and perseveres through the difficult time.
Mason, the main character in THE ROCKY ROAD is blind-sided with the fact that the love of his life, the women with whom he had pledged to spend the rest of his life, had an adulterous affair. The affair in itself was extremely painful and traumatizing for Mason to accept; but what was even worse was the fact that his former wife viewed it so indiscriminately as she commenced to move on with her life so quickly, and then move her boyfriend into the home in which she and Mason had lived.
Mason, a dynamic character who- initially seeks solace in running away from his problems- finds himself packing up his few remaining belongs and leaves for California. Taken in by his cousin and his wife, Mason longs for the wide open spaces he had left behind and wonders if he had made the worst decision of his life. In doing so, he contemplates giving up, once again, and moving back to his home where he would be surrounded by his friends and family.
However, during his time of indecision, he meets an elderly gentleman on a plane ride. Initially irritated with the man's need to question about the path on which he was in his life, Mason comes to understand the significance of the present. With this new found hope and strength, he realizes he is exactly where he is supposed to be at the time; and also that people- in general- are exactly where they are because of choices they have made.
A heart-warming story of perseverance and strength, and also the importance of placing one's will and life in the hands of a power greater than themselves- in Mason's case, he chooses to call Him, God.
This story will even give the most cynical person hope and inspiration to go forward no matter what his/her present circumstances. It is a well-written book filled with truth, hope, sincerity, and the knowingness that things will (and do) get better.
