Must have,

This review is from: Rocky Road (Audio CD)
Although it was one of their earlier releases, I didn't buy it until recently. I already have all their other cd's, which I love, so I figured I better get this one as well. What a great idea! I love this cd! You can tell that they love what they do and I know that a lot of people appreciate that! They are all amazing and very talented guys and I am so glad I bought it, finally! If anyone has not seen them live, I would definitely go do that as soon as possible!

Rocky Road as well as "Red" and "Breath" are a must have to any CD collection. This band has personality, spunk, and all the members are extremely talented. Buy it today, you'll be glad you did. Also, find out when they are playing near you, and see them live. You'll be hooked like I am. : )

I recently picked up this tape and it has been running over and over in my car... A traditional Irish sound with powerful lyrics and a great sound.

The music is great. The sound is rock with a celtic sound. It gets me though my 2 hour commutes.

This is a shorter album, but it's worth it all the way. I love it and it's got a few of my favorite Dubs' songs on it.

A six pack of Celtic-American fun!,
This review is from: Rocky Road (Audio CD)
A great sampler of what was to come from the "Young Dubs".
'Rocky Road to Dublin' is a quick-paced, tongue-twisting 'slip-jig'. The mixture of Celtic instruments with Electric Guitar deserves a stomp-along from the listener. 'Last House on the Street' is a happy light rock about finding freedom from the world in the arms of a loved one. 'Black and White' argues the big difference between loving someone and being IN love with them. 'Holy Ground' is 50's rock-and-roll with a modern style. Just dance to it. 'Enough is Enough' is a semi-country rock about the fights in a relationship. And 'Ashley Falls' is a Celtic flavoured instrumental to sit back and tap your fingers along the stem of your clay pipe. A 6-pack of Celtic-American fun!

Not the best, but definitely precognitive.,

I'm qualifying this by noting that this is an EP, and it's a first effort by a band that's grown to become truly great. Diehard fans of the Dubs definitely need to lay their hands on this, but for someone just getting introduced, any other album would be a better choice.
There are two wonderful songs on here - "Ashley Falls" and "Rocky Road." The title cut, in fact, is one of the best Dubs songs live or recorded, and "Ashley Falls" is your typical, enjoyable Dubs instrumental. There's no lack of "Irishness" here, and I'm not sure how anyone can listen to Keith's vocals on the title cut and not realize where he comes from (along with Bren, but bass doesn't exactly have an accent). Many Dubs fans will drool over this album. Frankly, and I say this with full love for the guys and respect for their talent and what they've grown to become, I don't see it. What I see, instead, is an uneven album with flashes of brilliance and a definite starting point for future greatness. It's worth picking up if you already love the band, and it sounds lovely if you don't take the EP as anything other than the foundation of something good. On its own, despite the inclusion of Lovely Previn on fiddle and the good vocals, it just doesn't stand up to later efforts. But hey, it's the first CD. I can give them a pass on this one. Fine wines aren't any good when they're first pressed, either.

This is a great band. Yeah, this is a short cd but it really shows off what the band can do. Would love to see them live. Maybe they can come out and play the Harp & Thistle here in St. Pete. It's where Seven Nations got their start.
