Loathsome Remix of a Great Song,
By
This review is from: Rocky Top (Audio CD)
If you like WWE professional wrestling and/or the Hank Williams Jr. type of music (especially his Monday Night Football theme music), then you will love this CD. For the rest of us, this must be one of the worst corruptions of a dearly loved song, and certainly the worst aberration of one of the greatest bluegrass songs of all time. The remix versions are truly offensive and each evoke that feeling of loathing that revolts and sickens the senses. If you like NASCAR, then this might well be the CD for you, but the rest of the sane world will reject this musical abomination. Shame on the Vols for perpetuating the destruction of such a wonderful song! The only saving grace is that the original version of the song is on the CD-- but I wouldn't suggest buying it only for that or else you show that you support the remix versions! Go and seek a CD by the Osborne Brothers so that you may have the original version of Rocky Top as well as many of the other great songs by these wonderful and talented performers!

Rockin' Rocky Top,
This review is from: Rocky Top (Audio CD)
Every song is called a mix. That means the original song has been remixed to play with a different beat, character, or style, so don't give it a bad review for not being faithful to the original. It isn't supposed to be the original. There is a TN Vols football helmet on the cover so you know this music is supposed to get you fired up. I bought my first copy at the Rhythm Section in Gatlinburg's Mountain Mall and wore it out over the years so a replacement comes from Amazon. The songs are great. The fourth song is fairly close to the original, but is actually my least favorite. If you want a well-know country classic flavored with modern pop coolness to get things kickin', this is it. Make sure sure you get your copy before going to the Smokies and hit repeat in the car's CD player.

Great for Tennessee Fans,

I bought this for my daughter age 12 for the natural born Tennesse fan she is. Her father is the Georgia fan and the upbeat tempo and dance versions of the Tennesse state anthem is great for "Driving them Georgia Fans CRAZY" !!!!

Big-time Tennessee Vols fan. Played the club version at my daughter's wedding and the whole crowd lit up! A favorite CD of mine and great value for the money.

The Quintessential Rocky Top!!!,
By AwiUsti "AwiUsti" (Joelton, TN, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rocky Top (Audio CD)
This is the quintessential *Rocky Top* that you'll hear blaring out of car and dorm windows all over The Hill on game day! The one bad rating by a reviewer here reminds me of the night the Vols defeated Florida and the goalpost came down with the CBS camera still attached and was carried away by a massive throng of Orange Faithful. According to a report in the Knoxville newspaper, a desperate cameraman approached a police officer and asked him to help secure the camera. The police officer, eyeing the *Host of Volunteers* numbering hundreds, yea, thousands, ushering away the post and camera, simply replied, "You a yankee, ain't ye?" Buy this one, play it Loud, and let your Bluetick howl along!

They've butchered a favorite. I've heard better versions of Rocky Top performed by 8 year olds at Silver Dollar City.
