Product Description

Amazon.com Review

In Ubi Soft's Rocky the cartoonish spinning, backwards punches, and rope-crashing choreography of the movie franchise are replaced by sound boxing fundamentals and realistic moves. Boxing purists will be well pleased with the realistic game design, including dead-on graphics and enough jab, hook, clinch, and taunt capability to satisfy any blood lust. Movie fans will enjoy controlling or opposing all the Rocky legends from the Ali-esque "King of Sting, Master of Disaster" Apollo Creed to Clubber Lang, Ivan Drago, and more. While the gameplay isn't a giant leap forward (even from boxing classics like Sega Genesis' Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing) this game is a must-have for Rocky fans, a good buy for boxing fans, and a pleasant--if not revolutionary--choice for gamers. --Patty Stuart

Pros

  • Re-creates the look and feel of the Rocky movies
  • Multiplayer capability
  • Features all of Rocky's movie adversaries

Cons

  • AI quickly becomes predictable and easy
  • Scoring system has an eight-point minimum per round
  • Complicated training exercises can limit progress

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocky: Simply the Best !, October 13, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
Having played the Xbox and Playstation 2 versions of the game at ECTS 2002 trade show I can tell you that Rocky is quite simply the best movie licences ever produced and one of the best games you will have played for many a long year.
Fans of the movie are going to love it because the game has a visual flair and an immense depth that recreates the sweet science of boxing perfectly and even if you have no knowledge of the Rocky films you will not believe the enjoyment this game can induce.

The boxing itself is easily the best 3D interpretation of the sport to date and makes all other contenders, such as Knockout Kings 2002, Ready 2 Rumble and Mike Tyson's Boxing, look punch-drunk has-beens surviving on past glories.
The graphics are excellent, great lighting effects, fully 3D crowds, and the atmosphere and fantastic soundtrack all use the Xbox and Playstation 2 power to full effect.

The single player mode is superb, but get together with some friends for a session in Exhibition mode and you can expect whoops and hollers to rival the best multiplayer games.
In fact this game has the only multiplayer game to rival Halo.

This brilliant arcade boxing game is based on all five films, and a worthy accompaniment to them. The beauty is that gamers unfamiliar with the series will admire Rocky for its power and simplicity, while film buffs who know little about games will appreciate how true the spirit of the celluloid version it is.

It has captured the essence of Stallone's scripts, acting and OTT fight sequence with remarkable flair.
Fan of the movie? Get Rocky! Fan of boxing games? Get Rocky? Fan of the Xbox/Playstation2? GET ROCKY

5.0 out of 5 stars GAME I HAVE WANTED FOR YEARS!!, November 21, 2002
This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
This is a game i have wanted for years, no one has been able to do it right, finally while not perfect it is very very good and is the best boxing game out right now. plus the nastalgia of the rocky movie series, this is great! i beat the game in 6 hrs on easy and was really moving was just like watching the movies and reliving the rocky feeling, as i said not perfect and may not have been excatly like the movies aka just left some parts out, but other than that, the music the graphics and sound are all from the movie. when you connect with a good hook you hear the rock scream right from the movie. I would recomend anyone buyikkng this game who has the smallest intrist in the boxing format, that with the rocky feel and nastalgia, WOW what a great game buy it enjoy it and re sell it on Amazon.com!! Wow only in America!!

shivers

5.0 out of 5 stars Prediction? Pain!, December 16, 2002
By
Derrick (Indianapolis, IN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
This is THE game for Rocky fans! Ubisoft spared NO detail in this game. In the "movie mode" you take the same route that Rocky did to get to the ultimate fight. Rocky fans will remember in the opening scene of the first movie, Rocky was fighting Spider Rico in a Philadelphia church gym on November 25, 1976...the game starts out the same way! Of course, a few fighters that werent in the movies are included to make a more deep game...but even some of the "unknown" fighters were mentioned at least once in the movie (example: Mac Lee Green, Union Cain.)

In addition to the fighters, the arenas are all here, too! You can fight in the Philadelphia Spectrum (site of the first 2 Apollo fights), Micks Gym, Moscow, and a few others.

The sounds are fantastic...most of them were taken straight from the movies. Apollo will taunt you like crazy, like he did to Rocky in the film! Rocky's apperance and outfit will change to replicate the movies as you progress in the game, which is just another detail that makes this game great. Oh yeah, you can also train in the same ways that Rocky did, including pounding the raw meat!

The gameplay is great, and you can choose from 3 difficulty levels, and they do make a big diffrence. As you go through the movie mode, you'll be treated to "re-inactments" of scenes in the movie, like in Rocky II when Apollo goes on TV to try to call Rocky out. They're all here...Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang, Ivan Drago, and Tommy Gunn! I gave this game 5 stars because the game portrays the movies exactly the way they should be. Rocky is a timeless classic that will hopefully never die.

Gotta go, Mick just came into the dressing room and told me it's time to take on my next opponent!
