3.0 out of 5 stars Good Graphics, TOO Easy!
I enjoyed this game very much. The graphics were well done. The game was too easy to beat. I beat the game in one night, and it felt like a waste of my money (I Rented It.)

Overall: Don't waste your money or time with this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocky: Simply the Best !, October 13, 2002

This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
Having played the Xbox and Playstation 2 versions of the game at ECTS 2002 trade show I can tell you that Rocky is quite simply the best movie licences ever produced and one of the best games you will have played for many a long year.
Fans of the movie are going to love it because the game has a visual flair and an immense depth that recreates the sweet science of boxing perfectly and even if you have no knowledge of the Rocky films you will not believe the enjoyment this game can induce.

The boxing itself is easily the best 3D interpretation of the sport to date and makes all other contenders, such as Knockout Kings 2002, Ready 2 Rumble and Mike Tyson's Boxing, look punch-drunk has-beens surviving on past glories.
The graphics are excellent, great lighting effects, fully 3D crowds, and the atmosphere and fantastic soundtrack all use the Xbox and Playstation 2 power to full effect.

The single player mode is superb, but get together with some friends for a session in Exhibition mode and you can expect whoops and hollers to rival the best multiplayer games.
In fact this game has the only multiplayer game to rival Halo.

This brilliant arcade boxing game is based on all five films, and a worthy accompaniment to them. The beauty is that gamers unfamiliar with the series will admire Rocky for its power and simplicity, while film buffs who know little about games will appreciate how true the spirit of the celluloid version it is.

It has captured the essence of Stallone's scripts, acting and OTT fight sequence with remarkable flair.
Fan of the movie? Get Rocky! Fan of boxing games? Get Rocky? Fan of the Xbox/Playstation2? GET ROCKY

5.0 out of 5 stars GAME I HAVE WANTED FOR YEARS!!, November 21, 2002
This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
This is a game i have wanted for years, no one has been able to do it right, finally while not perfect it is very very good and is the best boxing game out right now. plus the nastalgia of the rocky movie series, this is great! i beat the game in 6 hrs on easy and was really moving was just like watching the movies and reliving the rocky feeling, as i said not perfect and may not have been excatly like the movies aka just left some parts out, but other than that, the music the graphics and sound are all from the movie. when you connect with a good hook you hear the rock scream right from the movie. I would recomend anyone buyikkng this game who has the smallest intrist in the boxing format, that with the rocky feel and nastalgia, WOW what a great game buy it enjoy it and re sell it on Amazon.com!! Wow only in America!!

shivers

5.0 out of 5 stars Prediction? Pain!, December 16, 2002

This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
This is THE game for Rocky fans! Ubisoft spared NO detail in this game. In the "movie mode" you take the same route that Rocky did to get to the ultimate fight. Rocky fans will remember in the opening scene of the first movie, Rocky was fighting Spider Rico in a Philadelphia church gym on November 25, 1976...the game starts out the same way! Of course, a few fighters that werent in the movies are included to make a more deep game...but even some of the "unknown" fighters were mentioned at least once in the movie (example: Mac Lee Green, Union Cain.)

In addition to the fighters, the arenas are all here, too! You can fight in the Philadelphia Spectrum (site of the first 2 Apollo fights), Micks Gym, Moscow, and a few others.

The sounds are fantastic...most of them were taken straight from the movies. Apollo will taunt you like crazy, like he did to Rocky in the film! Rocky's apperance and outfit will change to replicate the movies as you progress in the game, which is just another detail that makes this game great. Oh yeah, you can also train in the same ways that Rocky did, including pounding the raw meat!

The gameplay is great, and you can choose from 3 difficulty levels, and they do make a big diffrence. As you go through the movie mode, you'll be treated to "re-inactments" of scenes in the movie, like in Rocky II when Apollo goes on TV to try to call Rocky out. They're all here...Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang, Ivan Drago, and Tommy Gunn! I gave this game 5 stars because the game portrays the movies exactly the way they should be. Rocky is a timeless classic that will hopefully never die.

Gotta go, Mick just came into the dressing room and told me it's time to take on my next opponent!

5.0 out of 5 stars much better then KO KIngs 2002, November 22, 2002

My advice to anyone buying the game is to go immediately to the sparing section and just play for an hour straight..this way you will get to have an intuitive feel for the controls and about 30 minutes into the exercise it will hit you that this is one great game. The use of combos is just amazing, with proper timing essential. With the great dissappointment that was KO Kings 2003, it is so nice to have this to wipe the bad taste away. I have not played the movie mode, but the game features over 30 boxers, and really captures the essence of the film. I very highly reccomend this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best boxing game in the business, March 27, 2003
This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
Rocky is freaking awsome!
it's way better than Knockout Kings, pretty much, it's in a league of it's own.

you can play movie mode, exhibition matches, tournament which is divided into Bronze, Silver, and Gold belts, or you can practice to get better.

in Rocky, you can be Rocky 1,2,3,4, or 5, Clubber, Apollo Creed 1 or 2, Ivan Drago, Tommy Gunn, and much much more.

other boxers in this game all come from different nationalities which range from Mexican to European to Chinese fighters.

excellent ringwalks, and every single fighter has his own specific ring walk which is something Knockout Kings doesn't have.

game play is easy to learn.
excellent combo moves, and you see imediate damage to your opponent, whether it be a black eye, a bloddy nose, swelling, bruising, or even a bloody mouth.

i prefer you also get the cheat codes to access all the boxers, and only that cheat code.
original game play only allows about 5 or 6 boxers, so enter that cheat code to get everybody.
you can also chose from areans such as outside Mickey's gym (Rocky 5), to the church (Rocky 1), to a bar, city hall, big rock, or even, the mother of them all, Philly!

again, excellent game with excellent graphics, and excellent detail and ring entrances.

Rocky is in a class of it's own. best boxing game, bar none.
and after playing Rocky, you will surley want to watch the movie.
so it's the best of both worlds.

4.0 out of 5 stars ADRIAN!!! I DID IT, January 3, 2003
This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
This game has a sliding scale.

Subtract 1 point if you are not a fan of Rocky.
Subtract another point if you arent a Boxing game fan.

Fan of Rocky and Boxing games? GET THIS GAME. I am having a BLAST.. in fact now I want to see all the Rocky movies again. The boxing game doesnt really stand on its on without the Rocky license, knockout kings is a superior boxing simulation. The license here works FOR the game rather than against it for a change.

PLUS

1-Great License
2-Good Boxing game

MINUS

1-Tedious Training games
2-Need to be a fan of boxing games, this wont change your mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blood, sweat and jeers, December 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
This game puts you into the action, you can feel hear the groans and see the blood and sweat fly when a punch connects. There are cheers and jeers, cruising and bruising, yelling and swelling, yaunts and jaunts. Oopose, getting carried away here! This really is great fun and really captures the atmosphere of a boxing ring. Faces swell up and bruise, and the taunt button has really amusing effects. True to the films for film fans, realistic boxing for boxing fans, and a great straight forward instant action beat em up for everybody else (and its miles better than Dead or Alive).

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, January 10, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
This game is pretty bad ass, the trainings are difficult but once you know how to do them you can get your stats up real good, the bruising and blood that doesnt go away is great, and who doesnt like the underdog Rocky.
The only problems i have with it are the stamina training (hella hard) and the intro cut scene is actual movie footage but all the others are computer animated (and look ok but ide rather see real movie ones)

If you like Rocky movies this game is great, but dont spend more than twenty-five
on it

5.0 out of 5 stars when you feel pissed this game may help!, November 17, 2003
This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
This game is kicking-ass! Somebody says that the training is tedious. You can always auto-train and save your concentration on the movie mode. Way easy to beat? I read the review on gamespot.com saying that with timing punches you can easily beat the players. It's true for the Novice level, but not for Contender and Champion modes, particuly for some all-around, quick and hard-hitting players at later stages of the game. You have to practice the combos and at least master 2 or 3 set of skills in order to knock out your contenders quickly and effectly, because Rocky is inheritantly weaker than his opponents in many ways (e.g. stamina).

Once you practice and practice you will really enjoy the fun of the big swing, upper-cut (damage 38, as opposed to 1 per "timing punch") after making your opponents dizzy. When you learn most of the skills and effective combos you will feel good about yourself. When you piss at your boss, come back home and use Rocky to knock you out of your anger. This will make your feel great again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long overdue, March 16, 2003
This review is from: Rocky (Video Game)
It's about time somebody made a game about Rocky. Plus the fact that this is the best boxing game EVER, no disrespect to the original ready 2 rumble on sega dreamcast. But this game is so easy to pick up and play that you will be hooked for hours. The graphics are right on the money. The controls are great for a boxing game (a nice change of pace) and the story sequences are awesome. If you like boxing games or Rocky movies, get this game. The xbox version is the best!
