This review is from: Rococo: The Continuing Curve 1730-2008 (Hardcover)
I will keep this short. This was an amazing show, tight and well presented. The book, which covers the show, is so well done, you could almost believe you had been there.
The show's, and book's, concept is that "Rococo" is not just a stylistic period of the 18th century, but a way of mankind's seeing and expressing itself when certain key social forces come together. The concept is interesting and does much to explain the revival of the forms of the Rococo throughout history, freeing it from the strictures of 18th century aristocratic European society, which has been the traditional view heretofore. Great pictures and well-researched text make the point quite well and gives anyone with a real interest in art history and sociology much to consider.

The exhibition at home,

It's a pleasure to continue enjoying the exhibition at home and for as long as I may read and keep such a wonderful book, containing interesting topical articles and fantastic photographs both of the objects contained at the Cooper-Hewitt and other items not displayed.
Exhibition catalogues are an excellent form of keeping abreast in research work in History of Art, as well as an interesting collectible.

This review is from: Rococo: The Continuing Curve, 1730-2008 (Paperback)
I ordered this book as I wanted to study the Rococo style of decoration
as furniture embellishment and its influence on design and decoration of other items in the 1700's The book is actually the catalog from the Rococo art exhibition, and shows The persistence of the flowing design through a cross section if work, from Rococo's origin to present times. It's a good book to study for examples. I was actually looking for a work on the elements of Rococo design, for use in furniture making. This is not that book, but full of interesting use of Rococo design in any case.
