If You're Not A Faces Fan, Hit The Back Button....,

This review is for any true fan of the legendary band, The Faces (if you're not, just hit the back button on your browser now).
Yes, in today's "ultra-digtal", "iPod age", the audio and video are not up to standards; but what do you expect! This was recorded back in 1974. Bottom line is this: to see a slightly strung-out Keith Richard & a young, vital Ronnie Wood duel out Chuck Berry riffs on "Sweet Little Rock & Roller" is worth the price of this dvd alone. These guys just don't kick it out the jams like this anymore. Again let me repeat, you got Keith! Being a diehard, longtime Stones fan, his appearance on this dvd is just flat out wicked. There are not that many mid-70's era Stones videos out there; any live Keith is a blessing. Seriously, the audio is very good soundboard & the video is really pretty good considering the technololgy at the time. So, if you know where I'm coming from (meaning you own all the Faces albums on vinyl) purchasing this dvd is a no brainer. If you expect 5.1 audio & digital quality video, look elsewhere. It don't need to be pretty to be rock n' roll, 'nuff said!

FACES? UH...HMMMM.....,
By barbie (New Jersey USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rod Stewart & Faces - The Final Concert (DVD)
First of all, let me say that this group (Faces) has been one of my favorite rock groups since their first album with Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood. I wore out their 8-tracks, then their lp's and now I have all of their cd's. Having said that, I have to say that I am VERY disappointed in this DVD. As the other reviewers have stated, the audio and video are terrible. I could have lived with that, because Faces wasn't about being pretty. They rocked, down and dirty. That's what I loved about them. The main problem for me here is the song selection. I believe there is only one REAL Faces song on this DVD (You Can Make Me Dance, Sing or Anything). There are 9 songs originally done on Rod Stewart albums and 2 songs originally done on Ronnie Wood albums...and that's ok too, because I love Rod's early solo work and love all of Ronnie's solo stuff too..but almost every Rod song here is a cover!!! Until a REAL Faces DVD comes out, I'll have to live with this one. A must for real fans like me, but still very disappointing.

Despite faults, still enjoyable!,

It's true that the sound and picture quality on this disc are not up to par with most DVD releases, but it is still a very entertaining film for any fans of the Faces, Rod Stewart, or the Rolling Stones. The setlist is fantastic, even without the Faces' best-known song ("Stay With Me") and the contributions of the then-departed Ronnie Lane ("Ooh La La", etc.). The Faces take on Berry ("Sweet Little Rock N' Roller"), among other classics ("Angel", "It's All Over Now"), and play a few of the members' solo numbers. The personal highlight for me, as a Rolling Stones fan, was getting to see Keith Richards at a point in time when the Stones were inactive. It was obvious even then that he and future bandmate Ronnie Wood had some good chemistry going. The film is definitely rough around the edges (even the packaging gives it the appearance of a bootleg), but if you can get past that, there are some fantastic perfomances on here.

A must-have DVD...,

...for any Rod Stewart fan! This is a very enjoyable video -- getting to see Rod prance around the stage in the 70's is great for those of us who are fans but were a bit too young to go to those shows. True, as other reviews have stated, the sound and visual qualities are not that outstanding, but they are still good! This is a worth-while video for the price and is a must in any fan's DVD collection!

This is one horrible DVD! The transfer is from a terrible 16mm film with breaks and scratches everywhere. And forget the sound... I bought it mainly to watch one of the great Hammond players, Ian McLagan... Too bad the sound destroys all fidelity. The one saving grace is the pure hysteria of watching Rod Stewart prance around and mug away! These guys (Faces) were great musicians. Sone of that talent penetrates the din every now and then. But don't waste your money...

This DVD showcases the wonderful chemistry between Rod Stewart and Ron Wood. Not the best production quality in the world, but definitely worth owning.

If you want a dvd that has great sound and is very clear, don't get this. But if your into a dvd that collect some of the finest musicans (including a young Keith) and the last concerts of one of the finest bands-get this.

You have to beware. This is old TV stuff that is not the best. Still, it makes me glad that I have this in my library. It is worth about five bucks to me, but still, I am glad I have it. Makes me glad wonder why we don't have more vintage footage of the great Rod.

Great Faces DVD,
This review is from: Rod Stewart & Faces - The Final Concert (DVD)
I have this on laser disc. The sound, if you run it thru the stereo, is crisp and bright; CD quality, really. The film was always with its pops and a bit of scratch. But what impressed me about this DVD is the way they have cleaned up the film over the laser disc, which I think is fine enough, the laser disc eons better than the old video tape, and, most likely better quality than the film you saw in the theatre all those years ago. If anyone complains about this DVD, they weren't there in the first place. Ignore them.

Mediocre Release from a Great Band,

This review is from: Rod Stewart & Faces - The Final Concert (DVD)
I've had this DVD for years, and while it's all we got, I think the Faces deserve far better. First off, the very title of this release clues you in that the producers didn't really know what they were doing. This was NOT the final concert by The Faces, not by a long shot. The Faces final tour took place in the fall of 1975 and featured Jesse Ed Davis playing rhythm guitar alongside Ronnie Wood. If only this DVD had come from that period then at at least it would have some historical merit, since no recordings have yet surfaced of the Wood/Davis Faces lineup. As is, sometime between the departure of Ronnie Lane and that final '75 tour, the Faces decided to make an in-concert film, and invited Keith along to create something special, but this is hardly the group's grand finale as the title suggests. You've read a lot of other reviews about the audio, video, and performance, so I'm not going to go into that too deeply. I've seen other performances by the Faces on bootleg DVDs, and I'd say that on the night captured here they're about average, not bad but not exceptional either. There's a BBC-filmed concert floating around out there of a show just after the release of "Ooh La La" that's a lot better, largely thanks to the presence of Ronnie Lane. The fact that the BBC material isn't available but mediocre product like "The Final Concert" is just goes to show how shoddily this band's legacy has been handled. On a good night, the Faces were one of the best rock & roll bands ever, but you wouldn't know it from "The Final Concert". I wish somebody would troll through the archives and give this band the decent DVD treatment they deserve.
