A very comprehensive book that contains a large portion of what anyone would need to know about gardening. It is geared to beginning gardeners who need help in planning and executing new gardens, but nevertheless contains helpful information for more advanced gardeners as well. There is advice concerning how to select a good site for a garden within your yard, what types of plants will grow well in each type of growing condition and numerous planting plans and ideas for different sorts of gardens. The plants identified in the book tend to be ones that are easy to grow and hardy in most American zones, although there are plans for both northern and southern gardens included. If I were to recommend one single book that would be most useful to people who have never sunk a trowel into the earth, this would probably be that book.
