5.0 out of 5 stars The versatility of a Russian avant-gardist couple
This book is the catalog for a 2009 show held at the Tate Gallery in London and covers the manifold accomplishments of these two major proponents of the Russian Avant-Garde, from 1917 to 1929. This review is from: Rodchenko & Popova: Defining Constructivism (Paperback)
This book is the catalog for a 2009 show held at the Tate Gallery in London and covers the manifold accomplishments of these two major proponents of the Russian Avant-Garde, from 1917 to 1929. Full of marvelous illustrations, it shows how versatile Popova and Rodchenko (and others, such as Varvara Stepanova) were, as they tackled such various media as textile, posters, theater set designs, costume, architectonic projects, prints, drawing and, of course, painting. It has been the first such book published in years and an opportunity to get acquainted with many previously unseen works, especially the trove coming from the Costakis collection housed in Thessaloniki, Greece.
