This is a great lightweight boom pole that works very well.
Richard J. Depaso
The Twist and Lock mechanism works fine but I can see why other people are concerned about it not lasting that long.
Pyanq
I had to use masking tape because it did not have a compatible attachment that would snap onto my mic.

I have only used very few boom poles in my experience working with film/video. Of the few I have used, none were of the top o' the line models but this particular boom pole was the best one I have used. While the other ones transmitted "tapping" sounds from handling the pole, the Rode Micro had minimal sound transference. To list the positives, not in any order of preference...
1. Very lightweight
2. Easy to expand/collapse
3. Compact (great for recording in tight spaces or for transporting on long hauls)
4. Noise from handling is minimal during recording (handling any boom requires good technique to avoid ANY sound transference)
5. Price

Probably the only thing negative I can think of with this pole (which is true for most poles) is that affixing the microphone wire along the pole can sometimes create unwanted tapping. Of course, this is where pole technique comes into play but more importantly, how you set up your rig. The more expensive poles have a feature where the XLR connection runs through the inside of pole however that feature worth the price you pay, I'm sure.

If you already own a good supply of equipment or are operating simultaneous sound recordings, this is will make a great backup. But if you're like me, working on a very tight (and low) budget, this IS DEFINITELY WORTH the investment. I'm very happy with it

I'm a starting professional, and this Boom Pole is perfect for the run-and-gun style of shooting I usually do. The boom is extremely easy (and quick!) to extend and the locking mechanisms seem sturdy. Although I expect a long life from this boom, Rode is a customer-friendly company and in my past experiences have always been gracious about sending replacements. I use this boom in combination with the VideoMic Pro and Rode's VC1 10' 3.5mm extension cable.

For the price, this boom is a steal! It will get you 1000% better audio than in-camera mics and 250% better audio than on-camera shotguns. Perfect for interviews-on-the-fly. I can even shoot video with one hand and hold the boom with the other. Just don't do it for long.

Right now this pole is on deep discount, which probably means it is being discontinued, so I took a chance despite some negative reviews. The pole I received is ok. The packaging looked like it might have been opened, so I was a little concerned but the actual pole seems to work. The locking mechanism is a little funky. On the pole, one direction says "twist," the other says "lock," but in fact if you turn the extended portion in either direction it seems to lock. To retract the pole, I have to turn the extended portion to the center, jingle just a tad and then it retracts just fine. The locking in both directions is true for both upper and lower extension but only the lower extension has issues retracting. In terms of sturdiness, it seems like the extensions might be a little flimsy. I haven't yet worked it with a mic attached and will edit this review if I have any serious problems with it transmitting noise, as some of the reviews have indicated.

UPDATE: I've now used this boom pole fairly extensively. It is very nice, light, with good extension. I've had no problem with the pole getting stuck in position. The pole is robust enough to easily handle my TASCAM DR-40 attached directly to the boom pole. I did not try a heavier mic.

For the inexperienced: The pole comes with a 3/8" thread for the mic attachment, so you either need mike holder or a mount head that fits 3/8". If you want to connect a small digital recorder directly to the pole (TASCAM DR-40 4-Track Portable Digital Recorder or

Rode should either include a 3/8 inch mic clip or change to the industry standard!
Be prepared to buy a special mic clip.

The Rode Micro Boom Pole Telescopic Microphone Extension is a great product with the Rode tag on it. If you have a Rode mic of any sort (I own the Rode Videomic Pro) it makes you looks a little more professional with the matching boom pole with the name twice on the grip. The best part about this product is how sturdy it is when locked into place. It fits perfectly into my mics thread. it shortens up which makes things a lot easier if you are a film student like me that keeps it in my car. If you get this product for short films, movies or any type of production like that where another person is needed to hold the very light pole up. You are not going to find a better boom pole for this price on any website including amazon unless it is used and tarnished in some way. the packaging was its original package and you are saving $100 on this thing. Get a 10' cable extension (I suggest an XLR adapter, way more sturdy and best results) and you are good to go. plug it right into your camera or into a portable recorder for later syncing. I highly recommend this to anyone, in fact a film student had already seen me use this once and has bought one for himself
