Most remarkable book I've read in years.,

This review is from: Rodeo in Joliet (Paperback)
Not only is this book startling in it's honesty and clarity but the very style of the writing allows the reader to actually feel the emotions on the page. I think I took one breath in the entire first six pages. Absolutely remarkable in every sense of the word.

I had heard about this memoir from a friend and I bought it immediately after searching through the book. I read it in 8 hours and I couldn't put the f#@king thing down. A mix of Norman Mailer, Philip Roth and James Frey. Stripped down, nothing precious, not a word wasted. It will make you cry and laugh your a** off. LOVED it.

Ready to feel queasy and laugh at the same time?,

Rodeo in Joliet Have you ever thought about what you would do if you were told you were going to die? This book shows you what it was like for one person. And he tells you about it in such a way that you can feel the same punch to the gut, think the same confused thoughts and experience the shock and the attempts to make decisions when control has been taken away.
Aside from being a brilliantly composed story, this really is an amazing opportunity to learn what a person goes through when cancer disrupts everything. Healthcare providers and caregivers should read this. Because it is a brilliantly composed story, I heartily recommend it to any fan of memoir looking for a fresh style.

This book is one that will snare you and not let go until the last page. Brutal in honesty and depiction, it shares Glen's journey in his battle with cancer with incredible power.
Whether you are a survivor, in the throes of battle, a family member or friend of a cancer patient or someone who savors reality at its "grittiest" you will appreciate and never forget reading this book.

There ought to be a new word for brave. Glenn pulls no punches and still manages to make you laugh. It's like he took my heart and had his way with it.
Read it, share it, you will see gratitude in a whole new light.

Clear Your Calendar and Read This Book,

This book was amazing. I cried, laughed and could not put this book down. The rhythm of the book made me feel as if I was seeing the entire experience through Glenn's eyes. He takes a life-altering cancer and shares it with readers with honesty and humor. It is way too much information, but appropriately so! He gives the gritty details of how horrible it is to be diagnosed and treated for cancer. As a woman, I read the book thinking "what if this happened to my husband?" It gave great insight into how Glenn (and maybe some other men) dealt with the diagnosis in probably quite a different way than a woman. The truth is, few of us know how we would handle the same situation, but reading this allowed me to imagine, just for a few days, what if this was happening to me or someone I loved. Absolutely powerful book, it's hard to stop talking about it.

Blown Away,
This review is from: Rodeo in Joliet (Paperback)
The book was so powerful, I felt that I had been hit in the stomach and was gasping for air. Mr. Rockowitz could give James Joyce a run for his money on heir to the title of "Master of Stream of Consciousness." Even when I had to put the book down, I came running back as fast as I could, even to read a few paragraphs at a time.

Rodeo in Joliet,

This book grabbed me from the first page and held me captive through to the end. I found myself laughing out loud on one page and then struggling to read through tears on the next. The author provides insight into the emotional and physical demons he tangles with through his journey and it is impossible not to become empathetic to his situation. Every medical person dealing with cancer patients should be reading this book. Now every time I eat eggs I feel rage towards the medical persons that discounted him for years before his diagnosis (read the book to find out what this means).

A Powerful Piece,
By
This review is from: Rodeo in Joliet (Paperback)
I finished the book in a day and a half. I orginally just wanted to browse through it, but once I started reading, it had me rivited. His haunting descriptions of what it feels like receiving a fatal diagnosis, as well as the ones describing many of the realities of cancer treatments, give important insights that would well serve anyone dealing with these similiar dilemmas - patients, family member as well as physicians. A powerful tool in the fight against this very ugly disease.
