Don't review this until you've seen them play..,

... I was lucky enough to see them live and they are amazing. The energy they had was unbelievable, and the strenght of their overall performance was right up there with FSF. Now I know that a cd and a live show are completely different entities; I was somewhat hesitant about buying the cd because I had no way of knowing whether they could capture all the raw emotion from their show on a cd. Recover far surpassed my expectations, and Rodeo and Picasso is definitely one of the best and most rewarding cds I have purchased recently. My advice: download/listen to a few songs first (my favorites are Match Like Memory, Rodeo, Betting All I Have, and Sympathetic Sickness), and then buy the cd and anything else you can get your hands on. See them live, you won't regret it; I believe they're touring with Further Seems Forever, Ann Beretta, and other such bands currently.

Another amazing modern hardcore album.,

I didn't know anything about this band, but i decided to give the album a try and I'm glad to say that i am not disappointed. This is heavy, powerful, emotional music for fans of bands like Grade, Waterdown, Snapcase, Braid, Quicksand and Helmet. If you like any of those bands or you are a fan of the post-hardcore emo (or whatever you want to call it) scene then I would recommend you check this album out

Before the review gets under way, peter, i'm sure you have no real knowledge of music, you just heard about this band from your friends and when it sounded different from the Foo Fighters and Linkin Park it scared you. Anyways, this is good music, and they are talented, but they don't play in an orthadox way. its like At the Drive-In only harder at the hard parts and softer at the soft parts. fugazi fans will appreciate this too. also check out further seems forever.

This is the best CD to come out in 2001..I don't even think I need to say anymore. Be on the lookout for these Austin boys, they are going to take over the world.

Recover is inmistably an emo band with metal influences (all the grade and pmfs references are warrented). What makes recover different is an almost whiplash inducing alternation between the two styles with little attention given to transition. The guitars (one tuned higher than the other in true emo fashion) and the vocalists (one a shrilly scream and the other a over-rehearsed, sorta-emo-whine) mostly work to emphasize the principle of polar opposites set against each other. In austin these guys had a huge buzz and their live performance was well worth seeing more than one time (members jumping off drumsets, jumping off each other, twirling guitars around their bodies by the strap), but I think their 4 track demo CD showed more potential than this. The two songs that made the cut to this CD(pardon the wait, the feel is gone) both share a sing-a-long, chanty quality that makes em great to see live; but the other two that didnt make it to this CD were replaced with some less than inspired song writing. The slower songs seem to lack sincerity or whatever it is that makes music moving, and for such slow tracks they have a stark lack of any kind of complexity or flourish; which makes them get old fast. C'mon guys, two guitars, two vocalist, a base and a guitar: do they really all have to follow the same lines? Between the songs they also have interesting found-sound interludes, i wish they would incorporate these into some of their songs. But besides that the faster tracks have enough variety and originality to stand their own. Keep an eye open for these guys' future releases. recommed for download: Pardon the wait, solutions, the feel is gone, not a word, rodeo, elimination.

Intense,

Recover are obviously, blatantly and plainly emo. Not a huge fan of emo myself, I first saw them playing a show, and the energy and band were incredible. I thought to myself, "I'll have to listen to them some more at home." I listened to some tracks from this album, and they floored me. The title tracks "Rodeo" and "Picasso" are intense, and just leave you breathless. Definitely stand out tracks. The rest are still awesome, especially "Pardon the Wait" and "Two Minutes Hate". If there were more bands like Recover, we'd have an intense, beautiful music industry.

I think this band is awesome. I'm from Austin & I talked to Jimmy the drummer once, he is a real nice guy. I think these guys aren't trying to be anything they aren't. Their music is edgey & that's why I like it. This album is rad.

No one knows Recover better than the people here in Austin. There are a billion and a half brand new up-n-comings in Austin, but Recover's different. They have awesome stage presence and are seriously fun. This cd is powerful and driven and definitely worth any rock fan's time and money.
