Celeste, cor anglais and a piece for organ and guitar!,
By
This review is from: Roderick Elms: A Little Fall-ish!; Concertino for celeste; Cygncopations (Audio CD)
A little Fall-ish!is a light and atmospheric musical description of autumn - or Fall - in an English park. The swans on the lake are represented by a couple of evocative pieces for cor anglais which surely must become standard repertoire for the instrument. The celeste, which has been making a come-back by moving on from the Sugar Plum Fairy to Harry Potter, is used to conjure up the floating leaves in the Fall, so another new repertoire classic features here in Concertino for Celeste. For unusual instrument combinations there can be few duets for organ and guitar to rival Fandango Fantastico, so there is something to surprise in every piece. With a triumphal climax of bravura organ run in "Back to Bach" this CD is a delightful treat.
