5.0 out of 5 stars Offbeat recording!, August 11, 2009
This review is from: Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez; Elogio de la guitarra; Fantasía para un gentilhombre (Audio CD)
The emergence of the Romero family in Spain was one the main musical events of the past century. It's as the Spaniard ground would be claiming for the appearance of great and sensible interpreters of the noble instrument. Far beyond the phenomenal and major virtuoso the guitar has known as Andres Segovia was, the Romero dynasty was for Rodrigo and so many other composers, a fecund inspirational motive.

The youngest son of the master Celedonio Romero -Angel- was born in 1946. He premiered the Aranjuez Concerto in Hollywood Bowl in the early sixties. His presence and supreme refinement as soloist in the stage has been highly praised by most audiences around the world. Angel Romero's notable virtuosity is ornamented with that showy elegance and idiomatic lexicon hovered by an exultant flair he confers basically all the works he has played.

Elogio de la Guitarra is particularly one of the main works of Joaquin Rodrigo, that truly had to deserve major attention from the great soloists of the guitar. He plays the piece with Dionysian pleasure, aristocratic vein and discrete sensuality.

I would really to recommend the acquisition of this album. It contains the grace, the flaming splendor and the fire of the Spanish taste without mannerisms, poses or artifices.

This classically famous piece is well captured on this recording and I find it a favorite even with those who say they are not fond of "classical" music. Moving rendition and tonality is crisp.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Music by Angel Romero!, December 24, 2008
This review is from: Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez; Elogio de la guitarra; Fantasía para un gentilhombre (Audio CD)
I bought this album before his live performance in Carmel, California. He is getting old graciously and his stage manner was great. Most of all, his music is the one of the most fantastic guitar music that I have ever listened! I would recommend this to anyone who likes guitar.
