On the Field with Alex Rodriguez: A Book Report
Did you know that the author of Alex Rodriguez started writing when he was 14 years old selling magazines such as Saturday Evening Post, Country Gentleman, and Liberty? In 1991 his life changed forever. He reached his peak in 1992 selling over six million copies of books. If you like the Yankees, Alex Rodriguez is the book for you. It is mainly about Alex Rodriguez's life and how he grew to be a pro baseball player. I like this book because Matt Christopher is a strong writer, and I can relate to his writing because I have overcome struggles in my life like Alex. This novel has many themes like, "The expert in anything was once a beginner" and "You can't succeed if you don't try." That is another reason I like Matt Christopher's writings. We know about Alex's next year in the MLB. His coach said, "He's ready" because he went through a major growth spurt over the winter. It was not all that good for Alex. As a child, he grew up in the Dominican Republic with his mother that was always there for him. When it was time for Alex to go to high school where he could play baseball and get an education, her choice was Westminster High School. This book has a lot of information about Alex Rodriguez, who he became, what he is known for. I loved this book more than anything. One thing I didn't like about this book was that they didn't talk about how he was traded to the Rangers. I like how they included his childhood. I laughed, and I can connect to this book and you will think twice about Alex Rodriguez by picking this book up!

My son, Kevin (going into 3rd grade) had to do a summer reading project and he chose his favorite person, Alex Rodriguez. The book was very well written and on the reading level he needed. There were plenty of great pictures and he learned a lot about his hero!
