Some time ago we lived in a house with a small, poorly designed septic system with a primitive 1 pipe leach field. We lived in an environmentally sensitive area and could not use any of the chemicals to burn out the system. The pros said that it would need to be completely replaced but that involved a major upgrade and EPA studies and permits which could take a year to get. It was always filled to the brim and if several people took showers it could back up into the tubs. Nothing was going into the field at all and the slow system was causing the pipes beneath the house to fill up also. A friend of mine at the local hardware store said to try this because he heard that it worked. We dumped in a container. Within 24 hours the system was working. Within a week we were able to use it as usual. Each dose lasted more than 6 months so we dosed it every 6 months. It did not give us any more trouble and kept the system working for years until our town finally put in a sewerage system.

A bit of background. When I bought my house in 1989 it was over 100 years old, and as such was built without indoor facilities. The date stenciled on the bottom of the toilet tank top indicated the bathroom was installed around 1962. I also knew the septic tank was under the forsythia bush in the side yard and where the drain field was because the grass over it was always much taller and greener than the rest of the yard. From the size of the bush, I was pretty sure the septic tank had not been exposed (read "pumped out") in quite a while, if ever.

Shortly thereafter, I was browsing the aisles in my local Grossman's when I came across Roebic K-37. After reading the bottle I decided to buy some and try it out. While the instructions said "once a year" I added to the system it twice a year, "just to be sure." I also did the "common sense" stuff associated with septic system. I chose the toilet tissue the dissolved well and never flushed anything "inappropriate." I never had any problems, except when the tall grass over the drain field choked my mower.

Fast-forward 14 years. One day I said to my bride, "That septic tank's been there since 1962. I don't think it would hurt if we put a new one in." There is an "old-timer" in my neighborhood with a backhoe and a dump truck with an excellent reputation when it comes to installing septic systems, so I made arrangements with him to replace the system. On the appointed day, he scoops out the forsythia bush, and carefully scoops down until he reaches the metal top of the septic tank. To my surprise, it is not attached to the tank. After pumping the tank, the sides and the bottom each came out separately. It also turns out I only had a 10 foot long drain field.

In 2001 put in septic tank with new home that was installed with the drain pipe against the deflect baffle. Called a septic pump service to troubleshoot. He corrected the problem and suggested we use Roebic once a year. We did and at 10 years we got the system pumped just because of the years of service.

Same man told us that we had maybe 2 feet of sludge and the system was working perfectly. This was our 12th purchase and application and at age 75 don't expect to ever need the system be pumped in our lifetime. -:).

We are very pleased with your product, we also use the root killer.

Recommended by the guy who pumps out our septic tanks and it does work. It keeps the bacteria growing and the system working just fine. It doesn't matter if you dump the stuff into the toilets or right into the septic tank. We only use it after the tanks are pumped out which is every 3 years as recommended for a sandmound system. Great stuff. I guess once a year wouldn't hurt, though.

I am a firm believer in preventative maintenance especially when it comes to the septic tank. You do not want that stuff backing up into your house. I have had very good results with Roebic septic tank and drainfield products, been using them for over 15 years and haven't had any problem.

I've used Roebic liquid concentrate products (K-37 and SGP or K-87) for years and never had any septic issues (with pumping every 3-4 years). This was my first use of a granulated version. It's certainly easy to use; simply pour half into toilet, flush and repeat with the second half (if you live in Florida, you're advised to break it into 2 treatments spaced 24 hours apart). I don't expect it to perform any less effectively than the liquid product.

I have used this for years and my 30 year old septic system has never been pumped (knock on wood). Add a third of this bag every 3 months to the system before bed. Add a whole bag minutes before leaving on vacation. Both give the bacteria time to grow.

Other things that have worked for me. Don't use disinfectants there are other cleaners to flush that will not kill the tank bacteria. Wiping a counter with disinfectant and throwing away the paper towel will not effect the septic. Use fine sink strainers in the kitchen sinks that you empty in the garbage. I think the granules are better than the liquid.
