5.0 out of 5 stars "The Roe's Room" - A Triumph of Sensitive Acting, Lovely Music and the Magic of Film - I'm in love with this film!
This film by Lech Majewski is one of the most creative and beautiful I have ever seen. I ordered it because I passionately admire The Mill and the Cross and wanted to further explore this director's genius. I had no knowledge of the film and no expectations. 2.0 out of 5 stars Opera is not really my thing
I don't want to belittle a film that is apparently admired by many, but in all honesty, I couldn't even get through the entire movie, if you can call it that. I'm not a big opera fan, especially opera that sounds Wagnerian, which you really need to be to appreciate "The Roe's Room". I don't even know why it's called "The Roe's Room".

I've now watched three...

This film by Lech Majewski is one of the most creative and beautiful I have ever seen. I ordered it because I passionately admire The Mill and the Cross and wanted to further explore this director's genius. I had no knowledge of the film and no expectations. What I saw skinned my eyes and ears. It is probably best categorized as an opera, although the impact on me was closer to an oratorio. I say this because the work emphasizes reflection and memory more than dramatic action. I am a specialist in classical music but this film's music and its performance had a fragile quality as if the musicians were just barely able to handle the demands of the score. The high-pitched counter-tenor (?) who sings the role of the son was especially moving because of his voice's vulnerability. In fact, vulnerability seems to be the theme of this work. All of the characters were in some way unable to fulfill their desires and dreams. They try, and try to help each other, but Life remains obdurate and causes frustration after frustration. Love appears to triumph in the end, however fragile and shy."

I've now watched three Lech Majewski films, and the only one I enjoyed and was able to view in its entirety was "The Garden of Earthly Delights". In general, Majewski is too "artsy fartsy" for my taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't play it once, March 11, 2010

The music is the reason to own this. Beautifully arranged with Preisner and Gorecki influences. Unfortunately a CD version is not readily available, so I find I'm playing the movie as if it were one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pokoj Saren, September 28, 2008
This review is from: Roe's Room (DVD)
'Pokoj Saren', jako zakurzona forma muzyczna z przeszlosci, oddaje nalezyte uklony w kierunku swoich korzeni, jednoczesnie nawiazujac do kompozytorow wspolczesnych (katarynkowe melodie Phillipa Glassa?).
Mysle ze filmowa wersja 'Pokoju Saren' mogla by byc przedstawiona w postaci fotograficznych migawek, z librettem w formie napisow. Zaoszczedzilo by to meczaco-dlugich zblizen twarzy Rafala Olbrychskiego (jedna z glownych rol), budzetu na calkiem niepotrzebne sceny rozbierano-erotyczne, a przede wszystkim - nieodzyskiwalnego czasu odbiorcy filmu.
