5.0 out of 5 stars AT HIS BEST!!!
I've recently seen Roger Hodgson singing at the "Concert for Diana" in July and it was terrible. Partly he sang off-key: "The Logical Song" turned into "The Horrible Song". In fact I was very sad to see that this singer finally has reached the age when the voice doesn't always sound as you wanna have it.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is no Supertramp
I am a big Supertramp fan and while this is no Supertramp I am amazed at how you can get this sort of intricate sound from just two people, so I would guess that some of it is pre-recorded (but I could be wrong). Overal it's not bad, pretty much the comercial side of Supertramp and missing the raw vocals of Rick Davies. Sound and picture quality is good. One thing it did...

5.0 out of 5 stars AT HIS BEST!!!, September 18, 2007
This review is from: Roger Hodgson: Take the Long Way Home - Live in Montreal (DVD)

BUT:

It seems that Roger Hodgson just had a very, very, very bad day at the "Concert for Diana". Because the show on this DVD is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. His voice as you know it for years, no singing off-key, an audience singing along and giving him standing ovations after almost each song. Plus a Roger Hodgson full of energy + in high spirits. Plus excellent picture quality + superb audio quality.

Some movies are so-called "Feel-Good-Movies". And I call this concert a "Feel-Good-Concert". It's perfect. When I've finished watching it just a few minutes ago, I felt so happy although the weather outside was cold and rainy. A typical day to feel blue, but this DVD has saved my day.

And I think, it's a show to see and hear over and over again.

For all Roger Hodgson and Supertramp fans: THIS DVD IS A MUST!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Roger Hodgson comes full circle, October 14, 2007
This review is from: Roger Hodgson: Take the Long Way Home - Live in Montreal (DVD)
Normally, I'm not a fan of live albums or DVDs. However, when this singer/songwriter from one of my favorite 70s bands, Supertramp, released this DVD featuring his concert recorded in Montreal in '06, I knew it wouldn't be anything less than stellar. I wasn't disappointed!

Unlike most singers from our musical past, Roger's voice seems to have only blossomed and improved with time. He gives 150% of himself, resulting in a sweet, soaring vocal performance.

Beautifully produced, the audio and visuals are a treat for the senses.

Supertramp were huge in Canada in their heyday, and it's evident from the reactions of the crowd in Montreal that they still love the music that Roger wrote long ago. It's a feel-good concert that will leave you smiling (and in my case, cheering!).

The bonus interviews and video clips sweeten this package even more. It's always interesting to get some insight into the music from the artist who creates it. Roger has a positive outlook which is refreshing, especially in this day and age, and this definitely comes through.

If you're a fan of 70s music, or just want to hear some music that is uplifting and fun for a change, do yourself a favor and add this incredible performance DVD to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of The Best Concerts I've ever watched. A Gem !, October 11, 2007
This review is from: Roger Hodgson: Take the Long Way Home - Live in Montreal (DVD)
Supertramp has always been one my favorite Rock bands. But Roger Hogdson is a total revelation to me. I knew the group but as many of you, I never heard his name before I watched this concert. So many of Supertramp's songs remain among my all time favorites: Breakfast in America, The Logical Song, The Long Way Home, Dreamer, Give A Little Bit (all of them performed by Hogdson on this concert). Well it turns out Hogdson is the genius behind them all as he was the original composer, writer as well as the voice, guitar, etc of 29 of Supertramp's 32 Hits on the Record Charts.

"Take the Long Way Home" is about a Hogdson 2006 concert in Montreal where he performed many of The Supertramp's songs he composed, wrote and performed in the 70's. You will see people of all ages crying and singing. The whole audience went several times into standing ovations as he sang and played as a "One Man Orchestra" either a "12 Strings Guitar", A Piano, An Electronic Keyboard or The Harmonica. This DVD is a GEM as the stage production including lights and sound as well as the quality of the Video (near HD) are excellent.

Hogdson must be one of the most underated Rock legends of the last 30 years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy, September 20, 2007
This review is from: Roger Hodgson: Take the Long Way Home - Live in Montreal (DVD)
If you are either a Hodgson or Supertramp fan this is definitely a DVD that should be added to your collection. It's the only live DVD from him that I know of, and the sound/visual quality is spot on. Its a great collection of songs and shows that Roger still has what it takes.

The extras on this were great as well.It had Interviews, behind the scenes type stuff and bonus tracks with orchestral additions.

I love this DVD!! I've watched it over and over again with my friends and family and really do feel like it's my own private concert. This DVD was filmed in Montreal. It was shot in HD with 10 cameras, directed by the top French director, Gerard Pullicino and has DTS and Dolby 5.1 surround sound. It has already reached #1 across all Canada and is currently multi-Platinum. The DVD includes Roger's classic Supertramp and solo hits, a previously unreleased song, and orchestra footage of Fool's Overture. It also shows behind the scenes footage from sound check, intimate interviews, photos, fan comments and more.

I read that Roger's new DVD went Platinum in Canada in just 7 weeks and hit #1 across Canada and is now multi-Platinum, I can see why. The DVD includes Roger's classic Supertramp and solo hits:

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Supertramp Fans, November 13, 2007
This review is from: Roger Hodgson: Take the Long Way Home - Live in Montreal (DVD)
This is by far one of the best concert DVDs I have ever seen. In the short amount of time it took to produce this DVD, it was beautifully filmed and it captured Hodgson's talent without fault. Seeing the reaction of the crowd to the music simply put me in awe. Aaron MacDonald's accompaniment and backing vocals added that much more richness to these classic tunes.

From the concert to the bonus features, you will not be disappointed with this DVD!

As expected Rodger Hodgson is sounding as good as he ever did in Supertramp and he has a serene peace and calm about him which shines through as he plays. Absolutely no regrets on this one, perfect!
