This is one of the few drawbacks of buying online. If I had been able to pick up this cd and turn it over, I would be able to read that almost all of these songs were not original recordings, but remakes. I figured they were "Roger Whitaker- Greatest Hits", not "Roger Whitaker-Greatest Hits Inexplicably Re-recorded".

Sadly - this cd is a bad deal. labeled as "greatest hits" - the cd contains only 11 tracks - it is low in quantity (total playing time: 39:18) and in quality. the cd doesn't include whittaker's phenomenal original recordings made in the early 70'ies - but poor re-recordings: the major hits like "durham town" and "the last farewell" are re-recordings from 1986 and simply cant be compared with the original recordings. the only reason i gave the album 2 stars and not 1 is for the featured song "river lady" - which is an original recording from 1961 and is just a great recording - featuring whittaker's rich and full voice from that time.

I ordered this CD specially for "The Last Farewell" - a favorite of my husband and I for many years. How disappointing that the beginning is garbled beyond being able to understand the words...

Roger Whittaker does another spectacular job with greatest hits. Some criticize the rerecordings, but if you are a young fan of Roger Whittaker, the newer recordings may be "real thing" to you. I also think this recording is too short. What it has though is wonderful. "River Lady" is a personal favorite, and Greatest Hits is the only recording I have with it. (And I have most of them) The solution? Buy Greatest Hits (CD) and press the continuous play button on your stereo.

Roger Whittaker has been called the most traveled entertainer in the world because of his enduring international popularity, braced by a slew of albums that have enjoyed continuing support form a legion of fans from everywhere from San Francisco to Siberia. This collection of his greatest hits is but a small representation of the total corpus of his recording work, which consists of dozens of albums. This engaging native of South Africa continues to entertain, and is still recording. So, although he doesn't enjoy much air-time or hit the top ten any more, he is still actively in the recording business.

Included in this greatest hits album is "New World In The Morning", "Durham Town", "I Don't Believe In If Anymore", and my own personal favorite, "The Last Farewell". Also found here are "I Am But A Small Voice", "River Lady", "You Are My Miracle", and a lovely cover of "The Wind Beneath My Wings". Also included are "Albany" and "The Skye Boat Song". This is a lovely album showcasing the talents of one of the world's favorite entertainers, and one that you will love listening to. Enjoy!

I too lament that this CD is short, with less thatn 40 minutes playing time and only 11 songs, but it's not as if Roger and BMG are guilty of false advertising, because this CD is exactly what it claims to be: Roger's Greatest Hits. The cover art reveals a mid-1980s Roger, not an early 1970s Roger - that's the first clue that maybe it's not going to be full of original recordings. If you want a longer CD of his hits, buy "Now and Then." The great redeeming feature about this album is that it contains "Albany," which only appears on the special order "Legendary" CD from Australia and on some of his German CDs. Like I said, no complaints!

I discovered Roger Whittaker in the early 1970s. Some of the songs on this CD/album are very important to me. I especially love the nautical themed ones and "You are my Miracle".

Fans of Roger Whittaker, like myself, will love this album. With nostalgic masterpieces like "Durham Town", "River Lady" and "the Last Farewell" you too will spend many a rainy evening alone listening and fondly remembering. The album covers most of the greatest hits, but sadly misses some of the greats, like "Why", "I don't believe in if anymore" and Rogers beautiful cover of "Streets of London". Rogers music is becoming more scarce and difficult to get hold of, so this is a very wise buy.

Everyone can enjoy Roger whittaker.
This cd is no exception.
This is a great collection of his songs.
My nieces who are very young actually love his songs and try singing along. It's mellow despite his strong voice and I love it playing in the background whatever I do.
Highly recommended.
